What should I do when my 8 year old was accused of touching another boy inappropriately?

My son and his friend were playing during the after school care, which is held in the school cafeteria, when he says he accidentally touched his friend inappropriately (words used by the school). My son says they were playing and he was gesturing when his hands accidentally brushed against his friends "private parts". He is adamant that it was an accident. The school called me to tell me but the parents of the other boy have not contacted us. They just told my son's friend he could not be friends with my son anymore. My son's feelings are terribly hurt. I am not sure what to do. Has anyone else had a similar incident happen to them. Should i call the other boys parents and talk to them? (They have never been too friendly in the past when i see them during pick up.)

I would not be able to let it go. I would definitely call the other kids parents. If for nothing else, to apologize for the mix up.

Tell him you are very sorry that he has lost a friend however you are grateful to have him as a son. not sure why the after care took it so far but.... they did .... if the kids were playing why take it there ..... anyway I would take him from that after care....

Thank you for the response. I was having a really hard time thinking about it from another perspective. It is a good idea to talk to them since I'm not even sure what they have been told. I will give it a try.

Thanks so much.
