Pacifiers don't cause dental problems in young babies. The issue with young babies is that pacifiers can sometimes interfere with breastfeeding. I wouldn't use a pacifier by default, but offer one if the baby seems to really need it.

Pacifiers can interfere with teeth in much older children, and with speech development in toddlers... the same way that excessive thumb sucking can cause problems in older children. The vast majority of kids will give up the pacifier on their own though, and don't use it nearly enough to cause problems.

Pacifiers are not really good things to be giving a baby and if you do it should be taken away before they get to old. It can cause dental problems.

Not much really... there are a lot of things that people like to have, but not much is essential. You normally need a carseat if you have a car. A lot of people use a crib for the baby to sleep in, but some people just sleep with their baby. Something for the baby to wear, but what depends on the time of year. We never used special baby soap or cream of anything. Some babies like swings or pacifiers or bouncer chairs, and some babies hate them.
