What to do when you don't trust anyone to watch your child but you work and go to school to have a better for your child?

You're going to have to trust someone to look after your child. It will be harder on you than your child though.

Basically you find someone who you can at least trust a little bit. I went back to work when my son was 8 months old, and couldn't find a daycare who would take him that young. I wound up finding an in-home daycare off of the classifieds. It scared the hell out of me. I didn't know this woman from a hole in the ground.

But, I checked her references, and they were all impeccable. I asked about her at the local family resource centre, and they'd heard of her, and had good things to say. And I brought my MIL (who is very skeptical of people) to my first meeting with this woman. It went well, and we were both very comfortable with her. Plus, while we were chatting, one of the kids she was watching (a 5-year-old girl) came into the room and just very casually slung her arm around the sitter's waist and kind of leaned up against her. And I thought, "Kids aren't THAT good at hiding stuff. If that girl is that relaxed and casually affectionate with this woman, she must be okay."

And then I just had to take it as a leap of faith, and trust that MOST people in the world really are good people.

You'll probably have to do the same.

Do your homework as best as you can, but at some point you just have to hold your breath and take that leap.
