what to do with parents

My parents and I got into a huge fight over something stupid. In her words "You're finished and now you have no one." So now they disown me (I'm 28) yet they still want to talk to my son (he's 5), any advice on how to ignore them? I don't want my son involved in seeing how they treat me yet when they talk to my son it's like nothing happened, what to do? I tried talking to them to find out what went wrong but nothing they act like I don't exist anymore. I live in NY and parents live in NJ. It hurts everytime my mom calls or texts to talk to my son.

My M.I.L did this to my husband and I last year. As far as we are concerned, when they severed their ties to him and I, they severed all ties to our children too. If you do not want them in your childs life, make it happen. Any post off them? Bin it. Any calls? Don't answer or change your number, hell you can even put a block on their number actually reaching yours (my husband did this). Our daughter was 5yrs old when this happened and has asked a LOT of questions. This was the hardest part, explaining that Grandma doesn't want to know you, in terms a child can understand and without being mean about it, is extremely difficult. Keep it simple. "Grandma's being very rude and hurtful to mummy, so she has to take a timeout." You can fill in the details when he's old enough to understand. They've shown you where they stand on this, it's time to show them where you stand. I'm afraid I don't have anything else to offer, as we are still working our way through it. Best of luck x

That's a tough one. Very immature on her part, but you don't want to cut off the relationship with her and your son. Big of you to let her talk to him still in all honesty. If you don't mind me asking, what happened? Just the gist of it is fine. I just don't understand people sometimes. Sorry about your situation.
