Business casual is usually safe. Most of the dads, and a lot of the moms will be coming from their offices to watch then heading back to work, so they will be dressed in suits and ties. It's not a dressy event, but in our school, the stay at home moms usually go ahead with a casual dress or slacks and a blouse so they don't look too dumpy beside their husbands in suits.
One note though, don't wear a lot of eye make up because you will probably cry. Skip the mascara and eyeliner and just go with a very light swipe of a darker shade of eye shadow along the crease of your eyelid. You'll still look finished and it won't smear or run if you cry. Some women can use waterproof eye makeup, but it doesn't usually stand up to my tears and smears anyway.

Clothes. It's not a red carpet event, most of the kids are going to want to play and have fun, so should be dressed appropriately, and as far as guests attire, I'd say that if you dress normally, nothing skanky or slinky, you'll be fine
