My son is 5 and comes home starving every day. He wants non stop snacks and I don't want to keep giving him things, but I don't want him hungry. My 20 mo old daughter is also up from nap at same time - so its after school snack for one - and lunch for the other! Help/suggestions needed!

I let mine have fruit or yogurt. I found out my 5 year old was not eating his lunch at school cause he was too busy talking all the time and that's why he's so hungry. If he's reeeally hungry I'll go ahead and make him something like a sandwich or put some nutella on whole grain toast or something more substantial. Oh, also they love celery and carrots and cucumbers also with a bit of garlic salt. (Tinytiny bit)

I found this video on youtube:

And I totally copied this in a way. What I did was make 2 bins and one bin is filled with yogurt, string cheese, bagals with hummus, cottage cheese portions, etc
The other is full of foods like grapes, cherry tomatoes, cereal bars, apple sauce cups, fruit cups, carrots, pretzels etc
After school when my kids come home they are to get 2 snacks (one from each bin) the protein side and the carb side. The protein holds them till dinner and the carb side keeps them energized until dinner as well so I dont have kids crashing out minutes before dinner. I love it because its filled at better convenient times and they love the choices available to eat healthier. We never have dessert type food until after dinner. They LOVE it!

He would eat 2 sandwiches if I let him. I don't give him sugary things, he just wants say dry cheerios, then goldfish, then yogurt, then an apple. etc its like non stop for an hour.

I may just stock up on some more fruit this week and see if that tides him till dinner!

thanks!

What type of snacks are you giving him now? Give him a regular snack, like crackers and cheese, or whatever it is he's already eating, and after that tell him he can eat as much fruit as he wants. So if he wants a snack he can have an apple or strawberries or something else healthy.

I say this mostly because he may just love the snack food, especially if it's sugary or anything. Plus he probably is really hungry. But if you let him have one regular snack of anything he wants, then the rest is fruit or vegetables. I mean at least it's good for him and if he's really hungry he'll eat it.
