What would you do?

Babysitter helps a 1 year old up on the bed (not sure why), moments later the child falls down on the floor despite the sitter being right there.

Would you let it slip or start looking for a different sitter?

Thanks!

When I was 16 I dropped a baby from a standing position. The baby was squirmy and I was trying to put the cap on the bottle using both hands and the baby slipped and fell to the ceramic floor. I was horrified. Since the baby was not bleeding or unconscious, my first call was my mom, who came over right away to check the baby out and then she helped me call the parents. The baby was fine and they had me back because they knew if something were to happen I would be honest with them. I made a mistake, I should have put the baby down.
Trust your gut, is the sitter telling the truth? did the baby get hurt and are the injuries consistent with a slip off the bed? If you suspect something else happened, like she actually hurt your child and is hiding it behind a fall- fire her. If everything adds up and you ultimately trust her, give her another chance. Have a friend or family member who has a key drop unexpected a few times to assess the climate and overall setting.

Oh...another side thought. Did she tell you straight away or try to hide it? Did you find a bruise and ask about it? Was she matter of fact, or worried about your child or more fearful of how you would react?

With this set of questions, if I were in your situation, if she tried to hide it.....no second chances.

I am not sure. I think other factors come into play like how long has she been sitting for? Age? was your child hurt? Did it seem like neglect? Does your child like her? Do YOU like her? Overall do you trust her with the life of your child?

Accidents happen, even with the parents. This is a tricky situation, but what it comes down to is my last question.....do you trust her with the life of your child?
