i think it all depends on where you live. we breastfeed but our doctor told us that if we ever use formula not to bother boiling because our water here is good. i live in milwaukee wi and here we are instructed to just run cold tap water for 2 minutes depending on what kind of pipes our house has but thats it.
talk to your ped, they should be familiar with what kind of water you have in your area.

I only boiled the bottles in water when I first bought them. But I wasn't using formula, either. I breast fed for her first year. When she did get a bottle feeding, I just made sure the bottle was clean and well rinsed after each use and stored well to avoid dust etc from getting in them.

4 months. That is what the public health nurse said when I asked and even though we have a good water system here it still needs to be boiled until then as babies immune systems can't deal with the natural bacteria in the water until then.
