My daughter is 8 and I was wondering when is the right time to tell her about the Women's cycle? One of my nieces started her cycle at age 9 and it was too scary for her and i don't want my daughter to feel the way my niece did. Xoxo

I think it's different for every child, I started early, and so did my mom, so I had to have that talk at age 9. I think you may be in the same boat. I didn't have the sex talk until later, but I didn't want to take any chances that one of my girls would start without knowing it was going to happen.

I too had my period when I was 10. Around 8 or 9 my mother bought me a book aimed toward understanding puberty and growing up. I was a big reader and it was a really good way for me to read on my own and ask questions later. I think it was a smooth move by my parents.

I'm guessing there are many books aimed toward her age group that might help, if that sounds like a good way to start the conversation.

Now is good. There are many great books available to help both of you out. We have 'The Care and Keeping Of You' (I believe that is the title) and I read it w/ my girls at 7.

They are 9 now and still about 2-3 years off, but they have the knowledge ready.... and still have the book. ;)

START NOW. I started my period at age 10 and girls are getting it younger and younger. I wouldn't bombard her with information but let her know that someday soon, you don't know when, she may start to bleed from her vagina. It won't hurt and it won't make her sick and it's nothing to worry about. It just means she's growing up and her body is getting ready to be like Mommy's. Show her you're not scared or nervous and she won't be, either.

Have you noticed her developing? If not, I'd not worry yet. On the other hand, why can't she understand a bit now? I am sure she notices you use products, make it easy and natural
