when do you think it is ok to start children on rice cereal?

I feel it depends on the baby. If there comes a point when your baby is drinking so much milk that they spit up and they cry constantly cause they're still hungry. I say put cereal in the bottle. Just put a little bit at first, then adjust amount depending on how baby handles the first few feedings. Watch their stool as well, cause sometimes they can get constipated. Follow your instincts and you will do what's right for your baby. LOL

I would consult with ur doctor because it depends on ur child 's stomach how soon they can digest it my daughter had stomach problems and had 2 b place on rice in her milk at a very young age be fore the rice was added she would drink and throw it right back up so it helped her keep it down.

My kids were about 2 months when I started them on rice cereal. Give it a try, every baby is different. I used my best judgement as a Mom and rolled with it, I hardly ever listened to the Pediatrician. Maybe shame on me but I have two very healthy youngs boys - Good Luck

my son was probably 2-3 months when i started him. hes 8 now though. its really when you are comfortable. i work in a day care and some of the babies are 4 months and some are 6 months. its all on you. my son was eating some soild foods by 8 months. and he turned out just fine.

6 MONTHS!!!! No less than that. Start with rice cereal because that is easiest on their poor lil tummys. My lil man has reflux so his digestive system is a bit underdeveloped so we are still on just rice cereal. Your baby should be having cereal everyday though.

whenever you like some people use it in the bottle from birth, but personally fi i was using it for reflux or to help baby sleep i wouldnt use it til about 4-8 weeks. my daughter was started on solids at 3 months in which she had pureed fruits and vegies plus rusks, you dont need to start your child on rice cereal as a first food, as it has little nuttritional value, tastes horrible and causes constipation

6 month, before that the stomach is not developed enough to handle solids. Constipation and diarhea are signs that the food is not being digested and its even worse if you are giving foods to counteract each other. It may not seem like any damage is being done right away but you risk allergies, and the incidence of crohns and other digestive problems can occur later on.

I started my son on cereal at 6 weeks. My doctor actually approved of it. Having to go back to work and have the baby on a schedule that allowed actual sleeping time, lol, the cereal helped him sleep through the night. The doctor then recommended putting in small amounts of apple sauce at 8 weeks. Changing fruits every two weeks in order to see if there is an allergy to a specific fruit. Good luck.

When I used to go To the new mothers program after my son was born they said that you shouldn't start them on cereal or any baby food until six months of age. I however started mine around three months despite what they had said. He is now 5 years of age and is a very healthy child. You do whatever you think is best for your child...Best of luck in your decision!!

my son is 3 months and the doctor put him on rice cereal well over a month ago instead of increasing his formula intake. 1 tsp cereal to 1 oz of formula every other feeding. Now we have started him on baby foods. he's getting pretty good at the spoon.

Honestly, as soon as you feel that your child is not getting enough out of just formula you should start them on rice cereal. My daughter was born 10 pounds and the formula was just not cutting it. She would wake up screaming every 30 min so I started putting rice cereal and baby apple sauce ( the cereal may make them constipated so the apple sauce evens it out) into her bottle and she started sleeping through the night. She was 2 weeks old at the time. She was such a happy baby after that. :)

Hi Nina, I feel it's okay to feed your child rice cereal when milk isn't enough. I would say 5 months, but some babies might start sooner, just depends on the child. It's a personal choice. Noone knows how to better raise your child than yourself.

I started mine early as well. Milk just was not enough for him. Every child is different so as a mother you need to make that call. I think my son was about 1 1/2 months maybe 2 months when I started him on cereal. So use your best judgment.

It all depends on the baby. My son was not big so we waiting until 6 months, but if you have a hungry child then your doctor will let you know when to start. Some put cereal in the milk as early as two months to help "fill them up".

Hello! we started my kids and my grandbaby at 2 months. The formula was just not enough per feedings. We gave them a tablespoon and 4 oz bottle unitl a 6 months then 2 tablespoons with 6 oz. Now were already feeding the baby 6 months the Gerber Graduate and he is in great health and weight wise.

My doctor said that i could start mine at 4 months just mix it so its not really thick. My daughter is going to be 7 months on the 13th and she is eating veggies and fruits...It is totally up to you, when ever you are comfortable with and whenevery you think your child is ready. Good Luck
