Please do not feed hot dogs to your children. They are so bad for them you have no idea.

I never cut the skins off. Don't know why people do that didn't take it off grapes either. Like the others posted, just cut it small.

I cut the skin off until my son was around 2. just in case. I tried it before this and he got chooked on it It scared me to death. So I just kept cutting the skin. After about 2 he never had a problem. But instead of hotdogs sometimes I would give him the vienna sausages and he loves them. no peeling and they are soft.

I never cut the skin off either, but I don't use hot dogs either. We eat tofu dogs - they sound a little suspect, I know, but my daughter never had a problem with them. And the "skin" is not nearly as tough.

For most toddlers skin on a hotdog is really not an issue but if you have a toddler with sensory issues they won't eat it with the skin. Skin falls under the category of texture. My daughter has sensory issues so it takes a while for her to accept texture. One time I had gotten her a chocolate shake and it had sprinkles on the top. Yummy candy you would think. She spit every one of those out. I could not even sense the sprinkles in my mouth when I took a drink but she could.

The best thing to do is give her the hotdog with the skin on and see how she does. If it is a fear of her choking on it stand by ready to go. We have a trick my mom taught us that I have shared with all of my friends and it really does work on babies and toddlers. When they are choking most people's instinct is to want to hit them on their back which causes them to inhale breath lodging the piece of food further down the throat. It you see them chocking: quickly grab both hands and pull their arms straight up over their heads. It compresses their diaphragm and forces the food to come up. My friends have been shocked with the technique as I have and we all do it this way and everytime the food is pushed back into their throat.

I never did this either. My son is almost three, and I just cut them into small pieces (probably 8 or 10 little bites) and watch him carefully.

I got made fun of once by a sister in law for my fear of hotdogs and making my kids chew them up completely before swallowing. I knew someone who babysat a little one who died from choking on a hotdog. I say take the skin off until they are old enough to take it off themselves and train them to do it! Also I cut them up really small until they were like 6!

i did the same as all above posts. i cut my sons down the middle and then long ways again, so they were1/4 circle size. now i just cut them in half. never did cut the skins off

My husband is a nurse. He cuts the hot dogs down the middle and then into bites. They end up 'half-circle' shaped. He says kids choke on hot dogs that are round because they are the same size and shape as their esophagus (he worked in the ER for awhile). We have 3 children and never did cut the skin off.

I agree with the others, I have never cut the skin off. As long as the pieces are in small bits and they don't eat too fast it's fine. I haven't ever had any problems.

Same here. I just cut them into really small bites but didn't remove the skin.

I never cut the skin off my daughters hot dogs, I just cut them into quarters and she never had a problem eating them that way.
