When can I start my baby on cereal? I don't want to put her on it to soon, but my baby sitter has asked me about it. She's 3 months old on the 14th. She said it would help her to not want a bottle so often. I breast feed and formula feed when I am at work or if she is with someone else BC I don't produce enough and she wasn't getting enough. So when's an appropriate time to start her on cereal? I'm a first time mom.

Thank you Sarah. I appreciate the advise. I wasn't wanting to put her on it just yet but wasn't sure. Thank you s much for your help. I'm a new mom, so I'm pretty new to it all.

Not until she is 4-6 months old. Right now she needs the breast milk or formula....that is what is giving her the nutrients she needs. Even when you start cereal you don't want her decreasing in the amount of bottles she is having. Cereal is meant for her to learn how to eat from a spoon and to learn about different textures it does not have much nutritional value. Most docs. will also let you know when you can start to feed other foods besides milk.
