Our son just turned 6 months old and at his pediatricians appointment the other day she told us (because I asked about it) that if he was able to use/hold a sippy cup he could have a bit of water in it throughout the day. So, I'm very excited about this and plan on introducing a sippy cup once we get him one, but could 6 months be too early? What if he totally loves his sippy cup and just doesn't want to drink out of a bottle anymore (I've heard of this happening)? --- would I just put his formula in the sippy cup and he could just drink from there?? What worked for other moms out there regarding sippy cups? When did you introduce them?

Dear Amy,
I would not worry about this too much. Babies/Toddlers that age prefer the bottle over the sippy cup. It might be a novelty the first couple of times, but then it will wear off. Don't leave the cup with him 24/7 to avoid him getting used to it too much.
I would not suggest for you to give the milk in the sippy cup as it will be harder at a later stage to go from cup/bottle to glass.
The dentist of our daughter (almost 4) had told us that bottles and sippy cups are super bad for their teeth structure and that it might promote speech issues as an over usage of the tongue in the front area of the mouth will occur.
Bottom line, as soon as possible get him to drink his milk/water from a mug.
Good luck!

Haha….sorry. didn't mean to shock you.
Let the kid be and let him have his sippy cup:)
You are right, everything we do seems to be wrong nowadays.
Do as your instinct tells you…I guess thats always the best way.

oooh okay well thank you!!!! yeah i def don't plan on leaving it with him for extended periods; just a sip of water or something/get used to holding a cup. now i wonder if i should even use a sippy cup with him though if it's bad for his teeth structure or promotes speech issues....i tell ya, there's nothing you can do without there being some sort of possible consequence!!
