When to start wearing underwired bras?

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

Hello,

I'm not going to continue breastfeeding past my son's 1st year like I used to think. And so I'm not sure how to start the weaning process. He is 11 months tomorrow. I'm a young new mom. When do I start wearing bras with wire?

Interesting... I've never worn a bra w/ a wire. Doesn't make any sense since the wire is completely under the breast. Hmm...

As for weaning a demand fed kid... sorry, no advice on that one. My demand fed kid wasn't weaned til 3.25 years old and he wasn't ready. lol

When you wean is totally your business and your decision, but WHO recommends at least 2 years. If he is nursing a lot it might be easier to just try and set a few limits instead of actually trying to wean him just yet.

Wired bras are discouraged by hospitals and lactation consultants because it can clog the ducts on the nipple and also can lead to mastitis.

I really don't know how many feeds of breastmilk he is taking. It is not fixed, but on demand.

I have no idea what wearing underwire bras has to do w/ weaning... You can wear any bra you want when you are breastfeeding... and when you aren't breastfeeding as well.

Once he turns a year you can start dropping a feed every week until he is done. You typically start w/ the feed they have the least interest in (usually mid morning or mid afternoon) and save the favorite (typically bedtime) til the last.
