Which pre-K or Kindergarten workbook is good?

I am looking for a workbook for preschool or kindergarten age for my daughter who is 4 1/2 yrs old. She won't be allowed into kindergarten because she doesnt meet the age deadline to turn 5 and she would be bored repeating preschool. We are planning on keeping her home this year [which she's happy about with her new baby sister] and then sending her to kindergarten next year since she'll be old enough. Thanks.

My three year old likes starfall.com. There are four levels, and she's on the first...letter recognition and sounds. Loves it and asks to play 'her letter game' all the time. Your daughter would likely be on the second or third level.

Also, look for blogs or websites that have hands-on learning activities. My favorite is icanteachmychild.com. I whole-heartedly believe that learning through play is essential and the best way for pre-schoolers to learn. This website has some great ideas for hands-on learning that use objects commonly found around the house.

I actually picked up an alphabet workbook in the Dollar Spot at Target. I wanted to see if my daughter was ready to learn to write her letters...she's not...so I'm just letting her color in the book. We point to the pictures and identify the beginning letter sound.

ANYTHING you do with her will be fine. And you don't need to do 'school' for hours a day. An hour at the most, practicing letters, counting or guiding her play is more than enough. 'Knowing' you from around COM, I'm sure your daughter will not be behind in kindergarten just because she's skipping this year of pre-school.

abeka.com They have all the homeschooling stuff you want. I don't homeschool, but I did order the "abc-123" work book. She could read by the end. It only took 20mns a day. Also, find an alphabet chart and teach by 'sounds'. eg. for A say AH - apple, buh - boat, ect. It's the best way to teach.
