It is a very long process that involves lots of testing. Don't look for a positive diagnosis for awhile, could take several months depending on where on the autism spectrum he is. Your pediatrician should have the final diagnosis when all the reports are in. I'd make a follow up appt with his primary doctor to discuss results approximately one month after all the testing is complete. Then you can work with the that doctor to either be referred to a specialist or to develop a treatment plan. My daughter has Aspergers, which is on the autism spectrum. She got testing through a psychologist as well as her school. The whole process took about six months. It's frustrating, but its worth it. Good luck to you.
