I got pregnant on the pill and they never did any tests other than normal ones. He's 11 now, so maybe things have changed. Did the doc explain why they want to do more blood tests? The ultrasound is probably just to measure the baby and get a more acurate due date. When you get pregnant on birth control it's harder to tell how far along you might be because you're not paying as close of attention as if you were trying to conceive. Also if they're testing for abnormalities you can refuse the testing. On my last pregnancy they wanted to test for Down Syndrom and some other things. I refused because it wasn't going to make a difference for me anyway. I wasn't going to terminate the pregnancy just because of something like that. My doc agreed that the option of termination is really the only reason they test for some of those things.

I recall the bloodwork being normal. I had to get it done a few times throughout my pregnancies. The ultrasound, I am not sure. I had my first ultrasounds at 8-10 weeks.

My daughter was on the pill when she conserved w two of her kids she had to go through the same thing, but when she went in to renew she script for her pills she was already 14 weeks presage. The way I understood was the pill can show a false presage, or to make sure the baby wasn't tubel! ! I'm sure it nothing both of my grandkids are fine one is going on 11and the other is 7 and healthy. :) you are lucky they take these precautions back when I had kids they didn't even give ultrasound unless there was something wrong... of course you should ask your Doc. Write down all the quietions you would like to ask to find out. . Always do that anyway on each Doc. Visit you have: ) I'm sure Hun you will have a Beautiful healthy baby! !!

The initial appointment with your doctor, they do blood work to confirm pregnancy, along with checking blood type, if your anemic, diseases...stuff like that. The initial ultrasound basically helps to determine where your baby is in your uterus and that its not ectopic and helps to pinpoint your due date.

These blood tests are common but not normally at 5 weeks. I suppose they are looking for hormone levels and and blood matching. Normally blood tests start about 10 weeks. The scan will give you a date to work with and give you a due date because you were on birth control your conceive date could be out of line with your withdrawl bleeds from the pills. Don't worry these tests would of been done any way. best of luck with the pregnancy.

they do alot of blood tests you might have a couple more I just had one done a few weeks ago and it was to test for down syndrome and something else and they do a ultrasound so early to make sure its not a tube pregnancy where the baby grows in your tubes and also just to make sure everything else is going right and your placenta is in the right spot my doctor is doing another one on the 11th just to find out the sex and that will be the last ultra sound it went the same way with my first baby too lots of tests and doctor appts
