why adhd/add children do these things

my child is adhd and i have found him to lie about things alot and be sneaky. i don't know why, i think the lying has to do with him not paying attention, i think he actually believes what he's saying. the sneakiness? well, i think it's because of all the punishment that an ADHD child endures. they're getting in trouble all the time, they just want something without having to get in trouble. i know i'm guilty of punishing alot, and withholding treats. that's usually what my son sneaks-candy or treats. i think if we found better ways of dealing with their discipline issues, the sneakiness would not happen as much. :)

My daughter sneaks things on occasion and she isn't add or adhd. The two are not related. You need to look for another source.

My 12 year old son does lie and is sneaky about some things. Mostly, it's related to school..homework, tests, etc. Occasionly, it's about cleaning his room putting things away things like that.

He knows there will be consequences for these things not being done therefore, he chooses to lie. Sadly, he gets punished for lying and still has to do what he was supposed too.

Because of the ADD he has trouble remembering the task he was given, focusing on the task, and organizing his time to complete the task so he would just assume not do it and hope to never get caught

amber- my son is adhd and he's 9 years old. I have been fighting wth doctors for 8 years- come to find out he is SLIGHTLY autistic too. he lies bout everything even if u saw him do it. he takes things that dont belong to him and he constantly sneaks stuff like snacks. the dr kept.putting it off and putting it off bcuz the signs for autism are very similar to adhd. my son has both! hope this helps u and push the subject to ur dr- I learned always ask to be refered to another dr for a 2nd opinion

I certainly lied as a kid but even will ADD I was farily well behaved. I didn't do most of the things that you often hear children and teens doing.

I have to agree that the behavior is most related to the reaction of others that ADHD and ADD creates, but not that being sneaky and lieing is because they are ADHD or ADD. Both my older daughter and my brother are ADD and each still at the ages of 16 and 34 are sneaky and lie.

Most children lie... and/or sneak things. Because they don't want to get in trouble for something they did or they want extra food. It doesn't necessarily have to do with ADHD!

Well I have an ADD child and he has never lied or sneaked things. So I doubt the two are linked.

It's not just adhd kids that do that. If it gets severe, a counselor may be able to shed light on why, and what to do about it.

I really don't know. That is something that you would have to find out about and look into it. I don't think it is because of the ADD/ADHD.
