the devil on everything that they do thats wrong or always say the devil made me do it." That is so damn annoying. I am just wondering if it is an excuse for messing up and you wanted to blame to it on someone/something else because you are too irresponsible to face the fact that it was YOU!!! NOT THE DEVIL!!!! Its driving me nuts I hear it all of the time. If I make a mistake I'm going to admit it and never blame it on the devil. Do you hear that alot and how do you feel about it?

I agree, I think it is a cop-out.

Although, I must say I am not a religious person.

I don't think that God makes people lucky either.

I think it is crazy either way.

For those people who are insanely religious, and would believe in a devils possession, or that God gives them special treatment, I feel, are chemically unbalanced themselves. It is just a crazy notion. If you are convinced that the Devil actually had taken over your body then you are not just a person trying to dodge blame, but are schizophrenic.

If you are vain enough to believe out of the millions of people in the world that God felt it necessary to bless you, and bestow you a perfect life (in a convenient 1st world country), then you are unbalanced. It is just how it panned out for some people. It has nothing to do with a higher power in either degree.

There is no Devil!

Just unbalanced, entitled people.

I thought it was just an expression, a joke....I don't think people really think a devil made them do something stupid. I think they just say it to make light of a dumb decision. Maybe I'm misunderstanding it, but I always thought it was a joking thing to say. We all screw up, that's a given, but we can laugh off a lot of those screw ups.

No I don't hear it at all. It is a joke. It depends on someone's beliefs. If someone is religious for example, I can see how it would be meant seriously. The same way people can say God will punish you or it's bad/good Karma. Some people are like that. I don't know anyone around us like this though so I wouldn't know how to respond. I would ignore it if I could.

P.S. Everybody DOES know it was me that made the mistake so we also know that I dont really think the devil made me do it. We all know too well it was me and only me. {:+)

Hi Serene,
I am sorry, but I think I like it. I think it is funny, because they cant be serious. That WOULD be crazy. I havent heard that expression in a long time. But I am always sticking my foot in my foot in my mouth and the people that know me, understand me and my intentions. They know I mean no harm. So not to offend you but maybe I will start saying that. Its cute IMO. Thanks for the tip. LOL {:+)

Here's another joke: Does everybody know the devil has retired for quite sometimes? Reason? Well, he got nothing to do, the humans have taken over all initiatives originally was devil's work of arts. Humans need no more nudges from devil. (how's that? I hear it from somewhere...)

I don't think thinking one is tempted or coerced by the devil (however unlikely that may seem) is the same thing as thinking one is possessed by the devil. The latter is the realm of myth and superstition. Even if you believe in the Bible or are willing to look at it in terms of historical narrative, there is no evidence from there that people are actually possessed by the devil or that he can possess anyone. There are brief accounts of demon possession which seem to be not only a different thing but also rare. According to Biblical text the devil doesn't need to possess anyone - he just needs people to deny or ignore God. I'm not sure what other religious texts mention the devil or possession so can't comment on those, but I do know people who live in Mozambique, and to the locals there you would be crazy if you thought hexes, spirits, etc DIDN'T exist. I'm not going to be arrogant enough to suggest that we in western culture know better.

Um, wow. It's an expression. If they really think that they're possessed by the devil, they need help.

I would pretty much go along with most of the comments above ie. it's either a joke, an expression, or for a small handful of (probably not crazy) people: real. I'm not saying that the devil did make them do it, just that they think he did. But I don't think that makes them crazy - same for the blessing of God. What does seem crazy to me is that anyone could think that just because you can't prove something with science it doesn't exist. Science can show how music is made and why it sounds like it does, but try getting science to explain WHY you like it! I'm with Michelle on this one!

Hi Danielle..all i can say is this...on your response..have you ever seen air!!! of course not...that odesnt mean..that there isnt a God....I have friend who is only 23 years old and has cervix cancer for 8 years..and when she decided to give her heart totally to God..5 months later...the cancer was gone.....If you dont believe..ask God to answer and unselfish prayer....nothing for yourself..but something for someone else and let Him show you who He is and He is right there for you.

I agree with you...the devil cant make you do anything..He can only entice you...whoever kkeeps sayig that needs to read their bible....cause there isnt a scripture in there that says that the devil can make you do anything...its call a choice....and that person needs to take responsiblity for their bad choices.

I think more often than not it is a phrase said out of habit, they don't truly believe this.

Some people honestly do believe that the devil is forcing them to do bad things. Do I agree with it, nope. But I'm not going to be annoyed with the person because that's what they believe. It would be like them getting annoyed with me because of something I believe. Kinda ridiculous.

I am familiar with ppl blaming the devil for anything and everything negative or challenging they face. However I think its just people need to blame hard times or bad things on spmething.
I doubt they mean the devil physically had control.

Its kind of a simple minded view bad or good...god or the devil is how they view actions, events, all things in their life

Blamin the devil is as rediculous as someone saying I blew up the car because God told me to do it. I realize that a few select people actually hear voices in their heads that tell them what to do. But almost everyone else just doesn't want to take responsibility for theirr own actions.

They are probably the same people who also believe that the devil planted the dinosaur bones for us to find to test our faith......

If used as an expression or a joke... it's fine.

If someone is serious about it.... that's lame and I can see how it's annoying. It's called free will people. Yeah, the devil tempts you, but it's your call to listen or not. ;)

Kelly I have heard of this being a joke, but now I don't know what to think because these people act serious.
