My 17 month old cries all the time and it drives me crazy. He is a happy baby he likes to dance and laugh. However he goes through these phases where he just cries and wants me to hold him. I wish he was a little more independent but I guess that makes me selfish. I love him so much anyone have any ideas on what else I can do to keep him busy or engaged in something other than me? I can hardly get anything done with him like this.

Thanks for your advice. He seems to be crying for attention from me yet he also shows braddy behavior at times as well. I never thought to pay attention to what type of crying he does as long as I didn't think he was hurting or anything. I will try to get him to interact with me more when he is crying and see if that helps like see if he wants to read or maybe play. Your advise is appreciated. Take care!

Is he overtired? That can certainly cause a short fuse. Sometimes kids need to just be left to cry. What seems to trigger the episodes? Does he seem distressed and in need of comfort or is it more of an attention seeking bratty behavior? In general I think a little guy that wants to be held and comforted, should not be ignored. However, if it seems that it is an attention seeking behavior, maybe you can tell him "crying hurts my ears, when you are done we can snuggle and read a book".
