Baby skins feels like sandpaper
My LO will be three months on the 22nd of this month and his skin feels like sand Paper. It started off as what seems to be as heat rash all over his body. His Ped said it was normal for all babies on all 3 occassions .Since then I have stoped the heaters in our rooms although its Winter except when we are going to bath and last few minutes afterwards. What do I do?id

I did some research and I should not have advised even OTC steroid cream for an infant. My children were prescribed much stronger steroid cream/ointment for severe eczema in infancy. The literature from the National Eczema Association advises to not use a steroid on a child under two, (even an over the counter strength) unless advised by a doctor.

If the texture of your baby's skin is the same all over, even under his diaper, then consider some sort of allergic reaction. You can try 0.5% hydrocortisone cream. Aplly a little bit to his body, not privates or his face, and cover with a good moisturizer. I found that Aquaphor or Eucerin work the best. Wash all of baby's clothing in fragrance free detergent and fragrance free softener (or skip the softener altogether)

Have you tried gentle lotions like Aveeno? That should really help moisturize. Also, you need the heat in the winter. Instead of not using heat, get a few cool mist humidifiers around the home to keep the dry heat moist heat.

I would not ever put any steroid on my baby unless specifically directed to by my doctor. But I do think the other information is great. Don't forget a cool mist humidifier!
