Why has my baby started waking up at night again?

My almost 5 month old had been sleeping about 7-8 hours at night pretty consistently. Now for the past 3 nights she has gotten up every 3-4 hours. I am in the process of weaning to bottles. She has just started eating cereal, which I thought would be helpful, and her last bottle before bed is Enfamil with rice starch in it (thicker than regular formula). She eats about every 2 1/2 to 3 hours during the day and I don't usually let her sleep longer than that during the day. When she does wake up at night I nurse her but she doesn't really take much, just falls back to sleep. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong or what I could try?

is she cutting a tooth? or have a cold? My daughter started to get up in the night again a few weeks ago due to a cold and she is 5 3/4 months old and she is just now starting to sleep more in the night again.

I think its okay to add a couple tbsp of rice cereal to your milk, My Doc told me to do this with my son cause he just needed more calories and he is great. No problems at all... and I take him about every 3 weeks to make sure there is no allergy's or anything. I think its something you talk to your doctor about and depends on the needs of the child . since every child has different needs.

I was always told to never mix cereal in a bottle, not sure if that's exactly what you're doing or not. That could be causing a gas issue or even a slight case of colic. It could be teething, teething will cause some discomfort and waking up. And if you're weaning from breast to bottle, its a comfort/control thing. My youngest son and my daughter both did it. My youngest son weaned himself off the breast to a bottle at 6 months. However my daughter wanted NOTHING to do with a bottle, but when I tried to wean her to a cup she did it. Growing spurts they're calorie intake goes up and waking up at night can happen for a quick snack. My oldest son didn't sleep through the night till he was 8 months old. Good luck. I know its frustrating. But it does pass.

It's another growth spurt. She'll be ok in a few days, most likely. Most babies start waking in the night around 5 months when they had been sleeping through, while they need a few extra calories whilst growing. x

I had the same problem, my guys started waking ever 1-2 hrs though... finally found out he was teething and going through a growth spurt. He has been waking every 4 hours now, once at 1am, and 4:30am...he goes to bed between 7:30pm and 8:30... :) but I got some camilla from shoppers drug mart to help with teething and it had camomille in it so helps them sleep a little better... could you be having the same problem?

hope it gets better soon :)

Another growth spurt. They happen at 3 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months on average, and even babies that were sleeping through the night will stop to get the calories they need.
