Why is my baby wide awake at 2 & 3AM?

Hi moms! Lately my 2.5 month old breast fed son has finally been sleeping longer at night. He feeds every 3 hours throughout the day like clock work, and his nighttime ritual begins at 6:00 PM with a bath, then a feeding, and he's usually asleep by 7:30 pm. He wakes up to nurse until midnight (progress!). But after midnight he begins to nurse every 2 hours (at 2am, 4am, 6am), and his 2am feeding is exhausting because he's wide awake and wont settle back down until around 3am or more (and yes, he wakes up again around 4ish to eat again). Sometimes it turns into cluster feeding from 2am to 5 am. Any insights as to why he has this behavior at this hour? Any tips? Thanks!

I experienced this same thing with my granddaughter. What I did (so I could get a better night's sleep) is woke her up at 10 PM and fed her again. When I started doing that she started sleeping until 4 or 5 am. Granted she was on formula which I am told is more filling but still. Those few extra hours of continuous sleep really helped. Good luck.
