My son Dakota is 3 1/2 years old. He will be 4 in August. When we was 2, he took somewhat of an interest in potty training then out of no where didn't care anymore. We tried everything to get him interested in it again but couldn't. We waited till he was 21/2 to try again, we stopped buying diapers and have continued to buy pull ups...We bought actual underwear to show him that he can wear them once he starts using the potty like he is supposed to. I make him sit down every 30 mins for 5 mins at a time. He will pee and I praise him...we've been doing this since he was 2 1/2 and he is still not doing it on his own. He refuses to poop in his potty chair and won't even try on the big toilet. He will sit in his poop until I have checked if he is wet or stinky. He just does not care. I will even ask him if he pooped or peed and he says no even though he knows he did. I don't know what else to do...I am at a loss...he just will not potty train...and please don't say "wait until he is ready.."...My son is going on 4 years old...no child should still be in pull ups at 4...the waiting game is over...

I think pull-ups are counter productive. Have you talked to his doctor about it? If i were you i would just put him in underwear and almost force the concept on him, it seems to be a free will issue. HOpefully he will eventually get sick of peeing and pooping in his underwear, my daughter pee-trained very easily but we had issues with the pooping, i just let her poop her pants, scolded her mildly when she did and corrected her. eventually she started doing it in the potty. Hope this helps, good luck

Thank you. I didn't want to sound like a horrible parent for forcing potty training because everybody says just wait but the waiting game is over...Thank you for the advice! That really helps! Today out of no where he decides he is going to potty in his potty chair. He hasn't pooped in it yet but he's been trying. He refused pull ups and wanted to put on his underwear so we'll see how well this goes! lol
