Why won't my child play with his toys?

Is it normal that my 3.5 yr old child is scared of or doesn't like to stay in his room to play. He has a lot of toys but i never see him play. He never even gets his toys outside to play with them. And when i tell him to play in his room, he says "come with me". I tried playing with him for a while then leave him to proceed on his own, but he doesn't. I tried to tell him that there are children who don't have any toys and he's got a lot so i'm gonna give away the toys that he doesn't use, so he keeps screaming and crying. Is that common?

My kids are 7 and 3 and neither play in their room. Actually they only sleep in there most of their toys are in the living room and sometimes if I have stuff to do in another room they bring the toys with them. He could just be feeling insecure especially if you try to sneak away unnoticed.

I don't think it is a good idea to threaten him. That will not make him play. Sounds to me like he is wanting your attention, and you to play with him. Kids don't just automatically know how to play, some need to be taught. You can always bring out some toys into the rest of the house and play with him there.
