I used a 1/2 Karo, 1/2 water dilution when my kids were newborns, at the suggestion of our pediatrician. My son's constipation would clear up while he was drinking the bottle! Use the dark Karo. Once they started drinking juice, a little undiluted pear juice worked really well. My pediatrician never recommended prune juice b/c of the cramping it caused.

Quoting Diane:

If all else fails, CALL your pediatrician

I don't agree with calling your pediatrition as the last resort...  It would be my FIRST reaction for any health issue.  Too many people take grandma's advice and risk their child's health by using practices that are unsafe!  You will get inconsistent and possibly harmful responses from people about what worked (or didn't) for their child.  A doctor will give you an answer based on scientific research and what is best for your baby.  I have been there and taken advice from others, only to regret it later when I got more information.  Please, do not give a 7 month old undiluted juice or karo syrup, unless your child's pediatrition reccomends it!  Trying plain water (2 -4 0z) warm baths and a rectal thermometer, will not harm your child and are acceptable "home remedies".  Writing a feeding journal may help you find a cause for the constipation.  If you can't find what it is, your doc probably can, and that information will be very helpful to him/her.  In the mean time, it's ok to cut back a little on cereal, but increase fruits, veggies and breastmilk (even for mixing in cereal).

I got a little botle of flavored and added it in my first child cereal. I would rotate it every other day. What other foods does baby much on? Some are worse than others. My third would have problems too so I tried it with her and it worked wonders. I used flaved so it wasn't so sugary tasting. good luck!!

Karo syrup is good but not in my case. My constipated 4 months baby was soothed from constipation and straining by using babies magic tea.

yes it will and is the best rememdy i know...what is your child eating? if you have put on cow's milk go back to formula...if on formula, not the stuff with iron as it is a culprit...if you are feeding your baby food, go slowly...and stick to simple foods, applesauce, peas, pears, etc. not meats, macaroni...the best is breast or formula for first year with a bit of cereal, fruit and veggies

My doctor recommended Mineral Oil. Not baby oil, but mineral oil. It's tasteless and worked great for our daughter. We did a tablespoon each night and by morning everything was fine. Of course, we had to do it several times to make it consistent.

I has to be the Dark Karo Syrup, the light will just give her a suger high, but dark should work fairly quickly.

Apricot nectar (Kerns) always worked like a charm for my son. The pediatrician recommended it. I was never without it and he happily drank it every day until he was 4.

yes it works great and fast you have to only put in 1 tbsp for four ounces of water. only give her one bottle per day. my daughter had horible constipation and my ped. told me to do that. after she starts having normal stools again then stop cause it could give her diareah if you keep it up but if it starts again you can give her it again. but i didnt have to.

Hi I always used fresh orange juice straight from the orange about a couple of teaspoons in some water. Also my daughter use to struggle going so I sat her on a potty sometimes with luke warm water in it. She always went on the potty.

have you tried the prune juice like everyone suggested? and all you can do is try and find out

Ugh... i've tried prune juice, pear juice, apple juice, baby prunes, bluberry desert, supositories, mlk of magnesia.... you name it we've tried it,still nothng!!!!

hmm sugar in the bottle? extra water? you guys got parachoc over there? or change of formula and eliminating iron from her diet and not giving rice cereal. if it has only started recently perhaps it is the food she is eating she may be allergic to something or not agree with it

Yes!! This is what my pediatrician told me to use for my daughter. I believe it was 1-2 tbsp. That was 7 years ago, so I don't remember how much.

Most of the time...add it to water in her bottle. Or you can give her some juice, just dilute with water.
