Words my kids can and can't say

My 4-year-old son is allowed to say "barnacles" (NOT "barnacle head") or "Jiminy Cricket" as expletives. But nothing stronger.

My 7-year-old daughter is allowed to use "stupid" or "bastard" only to refer to THINGS, but not to people.

Both of my kids are not allowed to say "hell" (not even the "Hellcat" car; but "heck" is perfectly fine) or "damn" (use "darn" instead; "dang" is too much of a slang) until they're 9 years old. Also:
*No "shut up," "jerk," (with the exception of "Beef Jerky") or "idiot" till age 8,
*No "crap," "oh my God," or "Shelby CV525" till age 10,
*No "pissed off" or "Jesus Christ!" till age 11,
*No "s---" or "b---ocks" till age 12 (they can say "shiver me timbers" to replace the s word, and "Sandra Bollock" to replace the b.o. word),
*No "f---" or "b----" (that includes "m-----f-----" and "son of a b----") till age 13,
*No saying "The Simpsons" (not really profane, but my kids repeat it a lot) or "G-- d--- it!" till age 14,
*And no homosexual or racial slurs ever to be used in ANY context (f-----, n-----, s---, c----, k---, etc.) till age 15.

However, both of my kids are allowed to say "ass," (only to refer to a donkey) "pee," "poo -oo," and "suck(s)." I will allow my daughter to say "ass" (reference to the body part; even "asshole") and "boobs" once she turns 8 in November.

Anyone think I'm being a fair mom to my kids?

Oh my. You actually allow your children (both under the age of 10) to use expletives?
Each to their own, I guess, but don't be surprised if they have the vocabulary of a sailor before too long. Whats wrong with teaching them something other than 'bastard', 'hell', 'Jesus Christ' (which can be EXTREMELY offensive to some), 'shit', and are acutally planning on allowing the use of the word FUCK???
Not only that, you plan to ALLOW homophobic and racial slurs?
Actually, I think you're doing your kids a severe disservice. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ALLOWING RACIAL AND HOMOPHOBIC SLURS. That, however shows YOUR true colours as well.

Hopefully, you're raising your kids NOWHERE NEAR where I or my friends are, because you're not being fair, you're being ridiculous, IMO

Hey, fiathater, what happens if you get a new family in the neighborhood, who's surname just HAPPENS to be Simpson? What do your kids call them? "Those people"? Oh wait, I guess if they were of a different ethnicity, they'd just use a slur (if they were 15 that is...)
My son's top phrase right now is 'wow...just wow'...which he repeats often to...do you think I should prohibit that?: His age is 17, after all, he may not be old enough to say Wow!

This poster ought to introduce her kids to the other wacko's preteen and teen.... that would be fun.

Regarding 'shelby cv525"...looks like it was referenced in Futurama.

FYI, Carroll Shelby DID produce an engine designated CV with a 525 cubic inch displacement, at least according to my research.

Still waiting to hear your logic behind this. ALSO waiting to hear/read you admit that you grossly edited your original post, which said "No homosexual or racial slurs till age 15". You've since modified it. That's slightly dishonest of you, since you didn't indicate editing, but nice try to get us to think we read wrong. The SCV525 references a hoax car that only belongs online, and I don't want my kids going around saying that the CV525 is a rare alternative to other sleepers, or else the teacher would Google it and think it's fake.

Weird, I'd say. I mean, who actually writes up all the words and then makes it clear to their kids they can't use THAT word until they are X years old.

Isn't it better just to teach your children to be able to express themselves without having to curse? After all, many of these words you list will be unacceptable to use in many situations - like a JOB for instance.

And really? You will ALLOW homosexual and racial slurs? Um, these are NEVER acceptable coming from ANYONE. EVER.

Personally I think it's a bit arbitrary and bizarre to have such a detailed list of words and 'appropriate' ages to say those words... what exactly makes 'hell' appropriate at 9, but not at 8 years 11 months? I do not think you are being fair... I think you are being nuts.

My kids are not allowed to swear... period. I don't care how old they are or what their excuse is... I don't condone it at all. I'm certainly not going to say that some words are inappropriate for my girls at 13, but once they turn 14 they are 'magically' OK.

Do what you want in your home w/ your kids... but it is very, very odd.
