My little sister started getting into trouble at that age! She is now 21, she got involved with the wrong crowd and my mom works 7-7 shifts at hospital, and she would get the call at work ,"Your daughter .....is absent from school today.....is this an excused absence?" She dropped out and started dating an older guy and she started using drugs, and was hooked on heroin at 17 1/2!!
First do all you can to keep him going to school, communicate with the school that you want to be notified immediately if he isn't there! Talk to school counselor about situation and they may be able to help. Does he drive yet? If he does take the car away and make him take the bus or car-pool with a younger student's family. It is so hard when they are that age because they think they know everything and you can't tell them anything! Do you think drugs are involved and if you do drug test him. What time does he have to be to school and what time do you guys have to be to work?? Do you have any relatives or neighbors that you can be comfortable enough with to ask them for help getting him to school. I can empathize with you but my son is 12 and not 16 so the only experience I had with a teenager was my little sis who is 11 years younger than me!
