My son is 7 yrs. old and I am worried he is going to get hurt if he doesn't follow the rules that are given to him. I work part time and my husband is at home with my kids and he is flustered and on edge because he gives my son directions and he doesn't listen and we are both worried he is going to get himself hurt by him not listening and we don't know what to do. Its like a full time job for my husband keeping an eye on him making sure he is not doing anything to put his life in harms way (riding his skateboard in street) I am in desperate need of some positive advise.

On top of what Shawnn has said, make sure that you are explaining to your son why these restrictions are in place. Don't tell him "don't do that, you could get hurt", tell him exactly how he could get hurt. Not just "a car could hit you", give him some details, "if a car is speeding and they don't see you in time, there is no way they'll be able to stop before they hit you. That could put you in the hospital with broken bones or a serious head injury."

if he's hot listening, you pull privileges. If he's riding his skateboard in the street, he gets the skateboard taken away for a set time. For example, the first time, skateboard gets put away for the rest of the day. (in a place he can't get to it). The second time, it gets put away for 2 days, etc.

I had a 3 strike rule: 3 infractions, and the toy or whatever was causing the infractions got given away. I never got to the 3rd time ;-)

Patience and consistency are the key.
