In response Shasta's comment...she is right...when my oldest was born they told us the same thing when he was finally about to come home from the hospital...that premature, white males usually don't do as well as girls and babies of other races...but that doesn't always mean anything. Every baby is different.

I to was induced at 36 weeks due to complications with the baby.. She is now 9 months old and other then being a little behind in a few skill she is a very healthy active 9 month old.. She was born with whats called Gastroschisis we spent 6 weeks in the NICU only cause of the Gastro.. She really had no other problems.. She would have been able to breath on her own if they wouldn't have had to put all her insides back in to her abdominal wall.. So rest assured that your doctor knows what you and your child can handle... I went in to labor at 32 weeks and came home and got chix pox 2 days after coming home.. So I was very high risk.. lol.. they got every thing stopped just to induce me at 36 weeks due to only having 3cm on fluid around her.. Just go in with postive thoughts.. I went in on 3-29 and was induced at 11:00 am 3-30 she was born at 6:03 p.m. on 3-30-09 at 3lbs 8oz and 16 1/4in long.. She was so small due to her birth defect so they looked at her more like a 33 to 34 weeker for size.. All will work out have faith and keep happy thoughts in mind... My husband was born at 26 weeks 30 years ago and was 2lbs 3ozs and he is perfectly healthy. According to my doctors at 34 weeks the baby has a high chance of being perfectly fine.

I didn't have a premie but I know someone who's had 2 born a month early. Both of her babies were perfectly healthy.

my daughter was 3 weeks and 3 days early and she was just fine. one thing you should think about though is adjusting milestones to your due date for the first few months. i would get nervous that she wasn't hitting hers on schedule, then would adjust them to due date and she was right on target. she caught up to other babies her age right around 4-5 months and has since started hitting all the milestones AHEAD of schedule. good luck to you and your new baby =)

It is perfectly normal for you to feel nervous....I had my 1st child @ 24wks...he stayed in the hospital for 4mths exactly....he is 4 yrs old soon to be 5 & he is doing greater than expected...he has asthma but other than that he is fine...just keep praying...your lil one will be just fine...I will keep you all in my prayers as well

My first daughter was born 6 weeks premature. My water broke and by daught had to stay 1 week in the hospital but that was in 1987 she has been on the honer role through high school graduated top ten and got a free schocership to our community college and now this year graduating from Mercyherst College to be a Music teacher. My daughter did just fine and so will yours always teach them the Lord is by their side from the time they come into the world and what every they do.

I had 33.5 week twins. Both babies had initial breathing assistance using cpap (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) to help keep their oxygenation levels up for a few days until they were able to do it on their own. Other than lung development, they were perfectly healthy and continue to progress normally for children their age (not adjusted age for premie). Rest assured your doctor knows you and your baby better than you may think. I'm sure everything will work out for you! Best of luck to you and your family.

My little boy came right on the day I turned 36 weeks. They thought that his lungs werent developed so they where giving him the shots that are supposed to help them stay open. Well he kept going down hill for about 5 days in the nicu, then all the sudden he started getting better. So after that they said it wasnt his lungs he just took his first breathe to soon and it gave him pneumonia. He ended up staying in the hospital for 15 days. But he is now 5 months old and weighs about 17 pounds. You could never guess that he was only 5 when we brought him home. They did tell us in the hospital that if you are having a baby early little white boys are the worst to have. Its something called wimpy white boy syndrome. And no I am not making that name up... This was our first baby and it was very scary for us, but everything is fine now... He hasnt had any problems since then. Good luck to you and your family. Hope all works out well.

My youngest was born 6 weeks early she is now almost 11 and doing great only very few things you should watch out for. But nothing major, you will need to keep them warmer if he/she cries and you have done everything else they might be cold they cry to warm themselves up. Don't stress they really feel it and they stress. and remember they don't do the same things as other kids there age ex... roll over and stuff. God Bless and good luck

My daughter was born at 26 weeks. She was 2 lbs. 9 oz. and spent many months in SCBU. However, she is now 6 and has only sustained one side effect [eye problem]. This would have probably happened anyway, so I don't usually link that to her premature delivery.

Ours was an emergency C-section because I was so ill. But we are both recovered. So don't worry. You will be fine.

My son was born at 36 weeks after having labor stopped almost weekly starting at 19 weeks. And he's a perfectly healthy just short of 4 month old now.

My baby was born at 36 weeks. He was a healthy weight of 7 pounds, 12 ounces. He did great. It was a C-section because he was breech. My water broke while I was at work so this baby was coming early, whether I wanted to or not. I don't think being born a few weeks early affected his health. This was my first baby, and he is great. You will be fine. Look forward to holding your little one.

My daughter was a month early Feb 5 she was due March 6 .she was 5 lbs 4 oz and 17 inch's . she spent 9 days in the NICU Unit . she had trouble keeping her body temp right and sucking that was about the only thing wrong and when i got her home she would just stop breathing . That lasted for a few weeks but now she is 23 month's old and is normal as the next toddler . Dont worry iam sure your baby will be just fine .

I just wanted to add this so that maybe to help you not to be stressed...my first son was born at 23 weeks and 5 days he weighed 1 lb and 4 oz. He turned 10 in August...he does have some delays but he is a miracle for my family. So God can bless you and your baby as I am sure he will. Congratulations on your soon to be miracle...as every child is!!!

I had my son at 33 1/2 weeks because of complications with me not him, but he had to stay in the NICU for 11 days. That was very difficult at the time, especially the leaving him at the hospital when I was sent home. Now he is a happy and healthy 22 month old and you would never know he had an early start! He has not had any problems! Stay positive and remember what a blessing you will have and just a little bit early :) Good luck and God Bless!

My second son was born at 36 weeks and is a happy, thriving 3rd grader that make the A & B honor roll every 9 weeks. He was in the hospital for one week after he was born...he was on oxygen for a few days. I will pray that your baby has as much success and is healthy. As I am sure all of these mothers will be doing the same.

I went into early labor on Jan 5th, 09 my due date was feb 4th, 09 luckily they were able to stop it but the doctor said she would have been perfectly healthy and around 6-7lbs she ended up coming Jan 26th, 9 days early at 8lbs 5oz! I'm sure you baby will be fine!! The technology they have these days is amazing. My friend is a twin and was born at 27 weeks!! She's perfectly healthy, same with her brother :)

My son was born at 34 wks 5/7. He was jaundiced and had to stay at the hospital for 2 wks because he coudn't get the idea of suck and swollow down, so he had a GI tube. They told me that at 34-35 wks is when they learn to suck in the womb, so I don't want to worry you about that. His APGAR was 9 and then another 9 five minutes later. Other than those 2 issues, which were minor, he was fine and I'm sure your's will be too. Good luck!

I had my baby girl about a month early as well and she is now one years old and very healthy. I had preeclempsia (spelling?) so thats why I needed to deliver early. There were no problems with her, the only thing that was difficult was that it was harder for her to latch on while breastfeeding. Since she was my first it was frusterating so I did formula but I know if I would have stuck with it it would have gotten easier. She even walked pretty early too (9 1/2 months!!!). Your baby will be fine just try to stay relaxed and enjoy the moment!! Good luck and Congrats on your baby!!

Don't worry!...I know it's easier said than done at the moment. Have you had your steroid injections? If you are worried about baby ask for a steroid injection to boost the baby's lungs, usually you are given 2 injections 12 hours apart.



I had my twins at 36 weeks and they were fine. We all came home 2 days later.

My son was born at 34 1/2 weeks and to look at him now you would never know it. He was in the NIC unit for 19 days because of being so early. Which was difficult while going through it but now he is very healthy and happy. He is in the 99% for height and 75% for weight for his age group (with preemies they usually go by due date for mile stones). All children are different and they grow at there own rate. But honestly now a days an early birth does not mean your child will have any long term effects from it. I have seen babies that were only born at 2 lbs survive and have nothing long term wrong now. I am sure everything will be fine.
