At a year old I took my sons bottle, and switched him to whole milk until he was 2 and then I put him on 2%. But he too is attached to his sippy cup and blanket.

My daughter can't drink cow milk because of the lactose, but she drinks soy milk. She drinks 4-5 8oz bottles/day of the milk (then juice, 2-3 4oz bottles/day). No formula! I am so happy about that because 2-2.5 gallons of soy milk, even, is less than two big cans of formula a week. She also eats 3 meals a day and 2-3 snacks. She is a big girl, though...in the 97th+ percentile in both height and weight. Very proportioned, just big as an average 3 yr old.

If your son is like my daughter, he will likely drink about as much milk as he did formula.

Hi Amber I understand your concern ,but if your child is having the whole milk with no problem I would cut the formula, gave my 3 girls very early and they 've never being sick, just go w/ your mother's instinct.Good luck.

Usually they get strait whole milk, especially since you've been combining the milk with formula. He should have no problems just taking it strait. And great job with the sippy cups!!

My daughter was off of the bottle at 11mos. too. She can't sleep or go anywhere without her blanket that she had when she was first born. Same with going to bed, she won't give up the sippy cup, but I usually put water in it and then she wont take it. She doesnt like water that much.

a 12 month old needs about 16 to 24 oz of whole milk a day if your going to stop the formula which i think you should go ahead and stop it. Give him a cup in the morning with breakfast luch and dinner and maybe one in between that should do him just fine!!!

I nursed my son, and I started giving him whole milk at 1 year old. I just switched and he did fine with it.

Same with us - just switched to milk and cup. I don't think that there was a "magic amount" - I just gave my daughter a half full sippy with each meal and refilled as often as she would drink it. If your son is drinking too much and not wanting to eat, try just giving a little at a time and encouraging food with it.

I am not sure what the usual is but it was right at about a year old that my son started drinking just whole milk. We did the switch to a sippy cup and whole milk at the same time and it worked great!
