Hi Everyone. I am new to Circle of moms and of course I may have some Facebook friends on here as well. Here's whats going on. I have a son name Christopher that just turn 1 september 13th. He has problems eating table foods. He is good with the baby jar food, but when we try to give him table food he either gags or rejects the food. I mix some mash potatoes and sweet peas together and also add some water to make it more like the baby food texture. Well he was eating it and then all of a sudden he threw it all up. I have doctor's and wic people pushing us to get him on Table food, but I have no idea how to start. People on Fb has giving me advice on what to do but all he does is gag every time something new comes to him. And he does not eat on his own either. I tried dipping his finger in his baby food the other day but when I tried to show him to place it in his mouth, he cries and act a fool. I don't know what else to give him table food wise ugh please help!

finger ood. sit him in his high chair at the table and feed him at the same time as the rest of you. put his dinner in his bowl but also put some finger food ona plate on the tray. he will get used to different things eventualy its just all new to him at the moment. if you are worried then take him for a check up it cant hurt.

Have you done any reading on Baby led solids? Heaps on the net.
Try introducing texture slowly - puree, then mash, then crushed, then little pieces, each step gradually over a period of time. New foods sometimes take a few goes to get used to.
Try not to stress over it, as your son could pick up on it and associate food with stress making feeding even more difficult.
Consider teething and the amount and condition of teeth - no-one likes eating with a sore mouth! (obvious things get forgotten when we are stressed ;) )
Lastly model eating at the same time he is, showing him you are enjoying it. Even just having him sit at the table with the family doing nothing but watching and joining in "dinner conversations" - food is a culture as well as nutrition.
Hang in there, it'll happen!
