I have a 10 month old boy who won't sit up on his own (he can but keeps flinging himself backwards) & can only creep backwards...he just rolls everywhere he needs to go. Should I be concerned & any advice on helping him achieve these milestones?

I wouldn't worry at all. Apparently boys can be slower to learn things then girls and I've read to only be concerned when your baby is 6 months past the average date for doing something. So if 9 months is the 'average' crawling time then that means you have untill 15 months before worrying. As for encouraging him to achieve these things quicker I don't really know. My daughter only flung herself back a couple times before she realized it hurt too much and stopped doing it. And it was in her tenth month that she started to crawl. She will be 11 months in another week and only now shes actully good at crawling!

Dont worry about it. My son doesnt roll or crawl but sits on his own and has just started standing and pulling himself up to stand - hes 9 months old. I was worried about him not babbling as all the babies i know his age are but hes now starting to make noises so he will get there like yours will. Best thing is to try not to compare and just let your little boy grow up at his own rate and for you to enjoy it and not worry. Hard to say I know but Ive been there and done it lol

My daughter will be 10 months in a couple of weeks. She just started sitting up without falling over in the last couple of weeks and still doesnt crawl. She lifts her chest up with her arms and then drags herself along. My 5 year old daughter rolled everywhere though! She went from rolling to walking, didnt even bother with crawling. They are all different so I would not be concerned.

I wouldn't be too concerned..every baby develops at different times..sometimes I think the books written about babies growth & development make parents worry to much if ours aren't at the stage where a book dictates a child should be at...my little guy who is almost 9 months is crawling moreso backwards rather than forwards, but this is apparently normal...don't sweat the small stuff...enjoy the ride in watching your cutey pie grow!!!!! : ) Heather

Every child develops differently, my son was fast and walking at that age. Maybe talk to your doctor about your worries. I'm pretty sure though he is just fine. Have you tried more floor time? Or putting a favorite toy just out of reach and encourage him to try and get it? Do you have any one with a child around the same age or a bit older for him to be around and watch? Maybe a play group even. Many kids learn from watching. Hope that helps a bit..
