10 month old not crawling or standing up, should I be worried?

My daughter will be 1 march 1st and she doesn't crawl either. She is just taking her time, but she rolls all over the place

You may want to talk to your pediatrician about her possibly having low muscle tone. My daughter has low tone and was behind in most gross motor skills. I didn't really think much of her being a little behind, but when we found out she had low tone and was evaluated by a physical therapist we realized she was much farther behind than we thought. She's been in physical therapy weekly for three months and has made huge progress, but if we would have done that I think she would be WAY behind. At this age when they get behind, it gets harder to catch up the longer you wait. An evaluation by a pediatric neurologist is very quick and not invasive at all to see if she has low tone. And you would probably qualify for the infants and toddlers/early intervention program through your school district (we did) so PT is free and they can come to your home to do it. It never hurts to just talk to your pediatrician about it to see what they think. Especially if she doesn't like to bear weight on her feet.

I wouldn't worry too much about your 10 month old not crawling and only having one tooth...my son is 2 years old and still doesn't have all his teeth. His doctor said sometimes they just stay in their longer, which gives them healthier teeth. Also, my son didn't walk until apx. 14 mos. Be patient your lil girl will do everything when she is ready, not when the books tell us she should be doing everything. Otherwise you'll drive yourself crazy...I know. Happy Holidays

No Worries. She will suprise you, just wait. My son at 11 months (he is 9 yrs now) would only do the army crawl. he would not stand against furniture, tables nothing. I would hold him up to try to get him walking and he would just stand there and look up at me. One day I was in a room with no furniture, I looked away for just a minute and when I looked back at him he was standing against the wall. He only had a wall to pull himself up. Still after 9 years I do not know how he did that. within a month afte he started to try to take his first steps. WHAT A SUPRISE. She will suprise you. Don't blink.

I wouldn't be concerned about your 10 month old not crawling, my son didn't do any of those things until shortly after that age.......just a layed back child.

no dont worry about your 10 month old not crawling, children are all different some dont crawl just straight into walking she will when she is ready trust me i have had 7 children

Reading alot of these comments I noticed how many moms think it's "normal" for children to not be sitting, crawling, standing, walking etc. at a certain age. Pediatricians or books like What to Expect the First Year guide you where a child's development should be. I have 2 boys and with both, we were very active with by putting them on all 4s, showing him how to crawl, standing them up and walking holding their hands, having them stand on my legs or even on the couch. We need to encourage strengthening. My oldest was born at 33 weeks with some developmental delays, but caught up at 6 months. People don't realize that we can't just rely on all these "cool" new gadgets or equipment for kids to sit or lay in as infants. Speaking from experience, seeing other kids of people we know who were placed in the stroller or pack and play or swing or jumper for long periods of time, they didn't crawl or stand or walk until much later. A few actually went through an organization called Early Intervention who helped with exercises and different things to do. Charlene- your daughter sounds very healthy, you shouldn't worry. Ask your pediatrician or find books on things you can do to strengthen her legs or get her interested in moving.

Not to worry Charlene! Every baby has their own inner sense of timing - they walk at different times, potty train at different times - its all according to their own inner rythms! I had one boy who walked at 9mos, and let me tell you that was horrifying at times! My other just rolled across the floor for several months, then at 13months decided it was time to walk. Maybe get her an excersaucer so she can bounce around and practice being upright!!

Let her take her own time to crawl and stand, when she is ready she will. be watchful and if she shows signs of remarkable delays speak to your Dr. but give her time and don't feel that she should be on time age wise, that is just a good guess and an average.

There is nothing to worry about. My first did not crawl till he was 9 months and didnt walk till nearly 14 months. My second crawled and walked earlier then that and my third was on the go earlier still cause she had a brother and sister aged 12 & 11. The most important thing to remember is that every child does things in there own time and there is no wrong or right time. So if anyone tells you your baby is slow or there is something wrong, tell them very politely where to go. And remember just sit back and enjoy your baby, cause you blink and they are teenages.

Hi, the facts that she turned over and sitting up and the age at which she did so are important to a developmental specialist and your pediatrician. She is young to be walking. Others brag about their kids doing things at an early age, but it all comes out in the wash at the end of the line. Your Doc will know if she is not making her milestones and can refer you to Babynet or an agency which will offer physical therapy. What a great Mom you are. Thank you for all you comments. I did speak to my Dr and she said that my baby is growing fine. She is just below the average line but she is picking up weight nicely. Her legs are strong, she is just abit lazy (LOL). She will get there on her own time. I really do appreciate all your input. I was just worried there was something seriously wrong because my 10 month old is not crawling.

It doesn't help when so many Moms out there are proud of their kids and "brag" about how early their kids learned to do things like walk! You should be proactive and check with your doctor, but know that lots of kids don't learn things like this til much later. I have Triplets who were only born full term for Triplets but learned at very different rates which caused me to worry a bit too. My one daugther didn't learn to walk until she was 17mts but the other 2 started way earlier than that she also didn't get any teeth until way after the other 2. They are 3 now and nothing slows her down and tshe's very bright! Try not to worry to much... i know it's hard not too. Baby walkers are completely banned in Canada for safety reasons, dont know where you live but just a thought to be careful if you're thinking about getting one of those. take care:-)

38 weeks is not a preme. Both of my kids were induced at 36 weeks and both have done things at totally different paces. I would not worry. My ten month old is not liking the idea of table food or stage 3 foods for that matter so I just feed her what she likes.

While it's true that missing certain milestones should be checked out with your doctor or pediatrician (being proactive IS a good thing), your daughter hasn't missed any from what you have described. Kids develop those skills along a range of ages; some do things early and others are late bloomers. As long as your doctor is aware of her growth and development, I wouldn't worry about this. When in doubt you can always call your doctor, too! Good luck!

All the comments here are very true, but if you are concerned you really should consult with your pediatrician. They may recommend seeing a neurologist, a developmental pediatrician, and contacting your local infants & toddlers program. It is best to get as much information and early intervention as possible. She would probably bennefit from physical therapy and will most likely qualify for this service through infants & toddlers. Every child is unique, but when they start missing milestones you need to be proactive. My daughter didn't crawl until she was 15 months and is now 6 and still cannot walk on her own. I hope this is not your case, but I wouldn't be doing you any favors if I didn't say... find out as much as you can as early as possible.

I watch my great niece who is almost 10 months (2 weeks away)....she doesnt crawl, stand alone either. She hates being on her tummy!!!!! My experience with her is she doesnt care if she does it so why should I. She is hitting all the other milestones and will stand if you hold her hands. If you are truly concered with it talk to her DR and see what they recommened.

If she was a preemie I wouldn't worry so much. Some kids never crawl and go right to walking. Some kids take longer, after all she is only 10mo. Please don't force her, that could be detrimental to her development. Here is some info: http://preemies.about.com/od/preemieages...

I wouldn't worry to much about your 10 month old not crawling or standing. I have a baby book my doctor recommended and it says the average for crawling starts anywhere between 9 months and 1 year. Walking can start at 9 months but it's also perfectly normal (and a lot more common than people think) for kids to not walk until after a year old (more along the lines of 14 to 18 months). Also, the dentist told me you shouldn't be concerned unless your baby doesn't get any teeth after a year old. Something I've been told and read a thousand and 1 times (seriously lol) is DON'T use a walker. In most cases they actually do the opposite of what you think they would. Every child is different and I'm sure your little one is perfect :-)

No need to worry this is normal. My daughter was late to sit up and really did not crawl much at all. In fact she just got up and walked out of the blue. I bought a baby walker to help strengthen her leg muscles and this seemed to do the trick. Abbie also did not like to be on her tummy so the walker was an ideal solution. Abbie did not get her first teeth until she was 13 months. Then they came through in 6's. Every child is different and develops at different rates you have nothing to worry about.
