My son did not walk until 2 days after he turned 16 months! He is my first also and I was nervous but the pediatrician told me it was fine. He is now 2 years old and runs all over like you wouldn't believe! Oh how I miss those days when he wasn't walking---DON'T WORRY!

Not to worry at all! It is totally normal. ;) My first daughter walked at 9 months and my second didn't walk till 14 months. They all just do it at their own pace. This is also true for potty training. ;) Hope this helps!

Don't worry at all. I have been told that you only need to worry when your child is 6 months past the average landmark for doing things. So If 11-12 months is the average age for walking you don't need to worry untill hes 17-18 months and still not!

Hi Wendy. My kids didn't walk until 13 or 14 months old, so no need to freak. Is he crawling well? The "cruising" along furniture stage will come soon enough. As you will soon find out, you get all excited for your kids to crawl, then walk. Then suddently they are into everything and you wish they'd just sit down and stay in one place! Be patient. It will all happen in it's own time. Good luck!

My grandson stood (no walking) for three months and one day took off...it was scary for me, as my own kids were walking early. Listen to the Doc...I am old enough and lived through enough to know they know the most (most of the time...:)

None of my boys, even the really physical one that was climbing at 10 months, walked before 12 months.

And I, myself, was 16 months old before I walked... and I'm perfectly good at it now. :)

HEY WENDY U DEFINATELY DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY.  MY SON DID NOT WALK UNTIL HE WAS 13 MONTHS AND 1 WEEK OLD.  HE WILL DO IT WHEN HE IS READY.  AND WHEN HE DOES WALK U WONT BE ABLE TO GET HIM TO SIT STILL.  GOOD LUCK.

My daugter didn't start walking till she was 13 months. She started walking on christmas day.  They say you are going to have a walker or a talker. And patricia started talking alot before she got alot of her moter skills. Don't worry.

I agree with the other mommies. Give him time. He'll come into it on his own. :)

I agree with your doctor. I wouldn't worry either. My daughter was 16 and a half months nefore she walked. Every child is different.

I think for the first baby this is quite normal. My first didn't walk until right after her first birthday either while he little sister started walking at 10 months. I think it is because we are carrying the first one around so much and playing so much with them that they do not have to bother with learning as early. My second child just wanted to keep up with her sister and because I had two and babysat others could not carry her all the time like I did with her older sister. So, she took matters in her own hands and just took off!!!

I wouldn't worry.

Kids are all very individual, my son walked at nine months and my lazy, yes I said lazy, daughter didnt get up off her butt til 14 months old, lol. She is just fine!!!! She is 11 years old now and getting A's in school. Don't rush the walking cuz from experience it just means they never sit down again, lol.

Don't worry!! : ) My 18 month old didn't walk untill he was 14 months, I was worried because my daughter walked at 9 months. Now I wish I didnt spend my time worrying about that because all babies walk on there own time :)

All kids are so different, even in the same family. Mine started walking anywhere from 11 1/2 months to 15 months. My youngest was the latest to walk, and at three she is completely graceful and coordinated, so don't worry! Once she finally started walking, she took off running, and your son will probably be the same way. For the time being, count your blessings! The more mobile they get, the more you have to watch them every second, or they will be in another room and into something before you know it. Enjoy every phase your precious little guy goes through, it all goes so quick!

its all so new to us first  time mums ,its such a learning curve....they all develope at different stages,i have many friends that have had children who have been late walkers.when it happen it will be like it happened over night...hang in there just encourage him with reaching for toys, hold his hand an balance him while he stands...just keep encouraging him and it will happen in his own time..hang in there.  :)

Oh, Wendy.  There's no need to worry.  My little girl was like that.  It's just a time thing.  I was a bit canny and set up furniture that she could pull herself up on, and then walk around.  I'd help her at first (just to pull herself up), and then let her fall.  She got it eventually.

It's like anything though, people will want to have their two cents worth, and you can't help but compare to other kids.  You just have to remember that there are lots of first time mums out there, and we've all been in the same boat at one stage.  Don't put pressure on yourself, or your little one.  Time, honey, time.

I am a pediatric physical therapist and can tell you that it is not unusual for a one-year old to not be walking or pulling to stand. In fact, my older son was 14 months before he was taking steps. Try standing him at a coffee table and placing toys for him to take small steps to with your supervision. Also, try placing him on his knees at a support during playtime.

Worry not!

My son was the same, I offered up the concern to the doctor who assured me that some toddlers begin walking as late as 16 mo.

Mine started walking just after his 1st. birthday. All in due time I assure you.
