My 18mo has been sick since Sat night. We thought it was food poisoning at first but now I'm pretty sure it's a stomach bug. The pharmacist said there's a lot of kids coming down with what he's got. We're gonna take him to the Dr tomorrow but I was just wondering, is it alright that he's been sleeping most of the day? He'll wake up for about 5 min, long enough for me to get a couple oz of water down him, and then he'll fall back asleep.

Thanks ladies! He hasn't thrown up at all today and I even got him to eat a couple bites of food. We got some stuff from the chemist that's like pedialyte but he doesn't like it so I can only get him to take a mouthful before he just wants regular water.

It's totally normal unless his temperature spikes or his breathing becomes difficult, then call the doctor's office or go directly to an ER. Rather than water, give him Pedialyte or a generic of the same and only if he's done throwing up. Your good if he's gone an hour without vomiting. Giving fluids on top of vomiting can make it worse and dehydrate them faster. Pediasure is okay, but could be a little much.
Hopefully you've been to his doc by now and this is just for future reference.

That's what my kids do when they're sick! Although, instead of plain water try Pedia sure, or diluted Gatorade. My kids hated Pedia sure, so their dr said the Gatorade would be fine. Helps keep their electrolytes up.

When I'm sick I would love to sleep all day. I wouldn't expect a child to be much different. As long as he wakes up once in a while to get a few sips of water, I wouldn't be concerned.
