I have an 8 week old son that seems to be changing his habits every day. we cannot seem to get any type of schedule for eatting or sleeping. i was trying to hold him off 3/4 hours on his bottle but he is hungry after 2 and he is eatting between 4-6 oz each feeding. he hardly sleeps during the day- maybe a nap for 20 mins or so.

at bed time he is waking every 2/3 hours. when he wakes at 5 am or so i left him sleep on my chest and he will sleep for 5-6 hours but i cant always let him do that. he sleeps very well on his stomach but i am scared to let him sleep on his belly as everyone says not to.

any suggestions?

I know this is a touchy subject, I had a preemie and for almost the entire time she was in the NICU they had her on her stomach.  So when she came home it was hard to get her to sleep on her back for long periods.   So I started letting her sleep on her stomach for her naps while I was right there to check on her, and she slept so much better!  I know my mom let all 6 of us sleep on our stomachs, my sister had all 5 of hers sleep on their stomachs and we are all fine :)  I then started letting her sleep on her stomach at night but at first I stayed in the room with her and then I put her monitor in the crib right next to her so I could hear every peep!

As for the changing habits I think this is just normal as a baby is growing and needs less sleep, my daughter has a small stomach and cant hold much at a time so we still do 4oz every couple hours during the day, she does sleep well at night but not until she was about 4-5 months.  Do you swaddle him?  Even now when my daughter is cranky if I wrap her up tight she calms down easier
