I have a 10 week old with acid reflux. Already on Zantac and have changed formula. Definitely seems to be doing a little better, and definitely not spitting up as much. He is also really gassy so I've been giving him mylicon as well. Dr. and a friend suggested gripe water and it really seems to work. Which leads to first question: I know it says you can use it up to 6 times a day, but really, how often is ok and for how long? I am giving him so much other stuff (at least it feels like it) that I don't want to add another thing in, BUT it really seems to help. I really try just at bedtime but have used it at least once during the day as well. Thoughts?

The second part of the question is about him sleeping in the car seat. He was sleeping in there (in the seat in his crib) for almost 3 weeks (from the start of the Zantac and new formula) and he did great! He was doing a 5-6 hour stretch and then another 3 hours or so after eating. I tried putting him in the crib, with the mattress elevated, the last three nights and it didn't go well. We did about 3 hours at a clip the first two nights and then last night only about 2-21/2 hours. I put him back in the seat tonight after I had put him down and he spit up clear fluid 10 minutes later. So, has any one else had their child sleeping in the car seat? For how long? was it a difficult transition to the crib?

Thank you, both, for the information. Jacqueline - a friend of mine told me the same thing about solids so hopefully that will help. I've put him back in the car seat to sleep the last two nights and he's slept 6 hours one night and 7 last night - I can't justify NOT putting him in it - just good to know that it's not impossible to get them out of the seat - will just take time!

And thank you, also, Tessa. I appreciate the response.

my daughters both had reflux. I find it best for bub to sllep in a sling on me, her pram almost upright or on her bendy pillow during the day.
We bedshare during the night and her reflux isn't a problem because I am right there and she finds comfort in that. She will sleep through the night too because she can dozily latch on to the boob and sleep through.
The best sleep gained with most reflux babies is through sleeping together.

I was advised wrongly with my first that formula is better for reflux. I now know differently. My new bub (9 wks) has much worse reflux than my first, but it is better handled because I BF her.
Formula is very heavy and digests slower so will antagonise the reflux.
Is there a BM bank or donater nearby that you could try BM on bub from?

My daughter had reflux as well. (shes 8 months and its gone) She was also a very gassy baby. We had her on nutramagin which seemed to solve both problems. We still use the gas drops on occasion, but i try it as a last resort. Our daughter slept either in her swing on bouncy seat for about the first four months. She prefered the swing and we got much better sleep. Once she started solids at four months the reflux really improved. The transition to the crib took about a week and some very rough nights when the reflux was acting up. We did let her cry it out for 15 minutes at a time and now she goes down with no fuss. In her crib we put a pillow underneath the fitted sheet to help elevate her head which really helped as well. Good luck!
