I'm a single mom to an amazing 2 1/2 year old who just got diagnosed with low allergies to soybeans, and pork and high allergies to peanuts and wheat. I'm not sure where or what kinds of foods I can buy for him? (he hates the sunflower seed spread) Also, he goes to his dad's parents house every weekend (there is a long story as to why he goes every weekend, all weekend) and they only think that I should limit what he eats that hes allergic too. Should I completely cut those foods out or should I limit what he has? I have an appointment with the allergist in a couple of weeks but I want to cut those things out of his diet all together until we go to the allergist, am I being to protective? The only reaction he has ever had was rash all over his body, sick (like a cold) and doesn't sleep very well (we think that those ore the symptoms). Thank you again for any help you can give me.

Yes i totally agree with Amy my daughter has food allergies.!!!! You need to be realy strict with the family this is your childs health and they need to understand that. Also besides your allergist you should see a nutritionist! they are awesome i hope you get a really good one. Because there are so many different names for a certain ingredient that you are going to need to know the names of them!!And you should carry an epi-pen jr. for your child. Your life is going to be changed you really need to read labels. I actually have to make my daughters food were ever we go to ensure that she will have food to eat. I try to find out what they are having and make the same things the way she can eat them and sometimes you can't go to everything but that is ok! I have learned that my child is blessed that i had to learn all of this and we eat so much more healthier!. I wish you the best of luck. I also came acrossed this website that i order some food off of . some of it is expensive. hut i only buy from it the things that i can't always get my hands on easily. it is called allergygrocer.com i love it you can also click on the allergies your child has and it will pull up a bunch of stuff that does not have those ingredients on it for you. but i always check . but it doesn't have all allergies like she is also allergic to strawberries and cherries and it doesn't have that :)

He needs to have them cut out of his diet entirely until your appointment. The allergic reactions that you see are all it is so far, but it can become full anaphylactic shock with any one additional exposure, and is more likely to do so with the high allergens. You will likely need to start carrying an Epi-Pen with at all times as well.

In regards to foods he can eat, read labels very carefully. I have food sites you could order from, but they are quite expensive and too low in protein to be safe for your son so I will not post them. I do know there are companies for each of the allergens you have listed, and some combination products/allergies. You may want to go with gluten-free bread for now (available at Wal-Mart) as it has no wheat or soy and is easily available. Watch wrappers of ALL food packaging for peanut allergies warnings. You see them on candy bars most often, but it's on many other items as well. Pork is a little harder, but there are fewer foods with it. Watch items like beans carefully, and again, read labels and learn all the names.
