My son turned 2 in may. when we put him on fornula we had to seitch to a soy based formula because the other stuff seemd to upset his stomach. When he turned 1 and we started him on milk he didnt have a problem with it. He's never seemed to have a real problem with bowel movements. But for awhile now its so hard for himto go that it takes him 2 days to finally go and it hurts him. Gonna call the doctor soon. SOme relatives have told me to take him completely off dairy for about a week and see if that makes a difference and others have told me to just add more fiber to his diet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Lisa don't feel bad. My son is went on Miralax when we tried everything and he went over a week without a bm!!!! He has been on it a couple years now but only takes a very small amount daily. We hope to get off it very soon.. Sometimes it's the only thing that works.

We have been putting my daughter on Miralax, too. Do I like it? No!
I have no choice. I have tried the right kind of food, lots of water+juice and plenty of running/climbing. The worst situation came when she didn't go for three days. On the last day, after I put a suppository, she still didn't produce any poop.
Now she goes to a mini-summer camp. She is not used to use potty when no family member is around or ask for a diaper from a non-family member. Her bowel movement went from at least once a day to once two days after I slightly increased the amount of Miralax.
I am so frustrated with this problem. The doctor's advice - be patient and let she grow out of it.

Woops, sorry part of my reply didn't post. In regards to the Miralax, we started that after trying a ton of other options, which are listed here, but did not work for my son. Hopefully you'll find something that helps, whether it be karo syrup, flax seed or Miralax.

Is he getting enough water? Make sure he's hydrated and you can try adding more fiber to his diet. We've added Flax Seed Meal to some foods (pancakes are great). Pear juice and apple juice help too. I didn't want to go straight to Miralax but that was recommended to us if changing his diet didn't work. Hope this helps.

We had a similar problem with our now 5 year old. Our ped. put him on Miralax powder and it has worked wonders. We went back on it when we potty trained him because he would hold back his bm. It's very safe and is ok for kids. You might want to consider it if it becomes a long term issue. Good luck.
