21weeks and having side pains

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

I'm 21weeks pregnant with my first child and am experiencing intense, sporadic, pain in my left side. I went to the ER because I thought I might be miscarrying and they told me that they really weren't sure what was going on because all my test came back fine and the baby's heart rate looked good. Does anyone know what might be happening to cause the pain?

From a labor & delivery nurse, it is most likely round ligament pain. The baby has an increase in wt around 19-23 wks & the weight causes tension on the ligaments that hold ur uterus up. It is normal but can be very uncomfortable.

The same thing happened to me around my 21st week. Went to ER and was told that it was round ligament pain. The pain was so bad I could barely walk. After a week of bedrest it finally went away.

I had side pains with my first pregnancy, I don't know what caused it but the pregnancy was normal and I had a healthy baby. If the tests you had showed no problems then I would just put it down to "pregnancy pains". Baby could be pushing on a nerve or something like that.
