Hello. My son, who is now 4, chews on everything. He has done this since he was an infant. It's not everyday and the items change. It used to be his finger and toe nails or every toy he had in his hand. Sometimes if he can't find anything better, he will chew the rubber on the bottom of his shoe. Last night it was a AA battery from one of his toys. He doesn't like loud noise but other than that he seems pretty normal. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Has anyone ever used Chewelry? Any thoughts on these products? Thanks everyone!

My daughter who is almost 4 does this also. She mostly chews on her shirt. Like she chews on more things than my baby does, and the baby is the one teething haha
I really do believe it's out of boredom, or sometimes nervousness/anxiousness. What I do is tell her that big girls don't chew on toys, and also that she may get sick if she chews on things like toes, hands, shoes because of the germs. In the last year she has definitely decreased the chewing. I just had to be consistent on telling her "No". I never got mad at her because I didn't want her to be ashamed of something she didn't really see the harm in.

We are taking him to the dentist this week to see. He has 20 teeth right now. I swear it's almost a boredom issue. Is that even possible in a 4 year old?

Does he still have teeth coming in or it just a impulsive act to chew? My son is a finger, hand, foot, everything chewer too but mostly because his teeth are bothering him. Or he's upset by something. I would just try getting him something that is literally designated to chewing so he's not chewing on AA batteries which can be VERY dangerous for him to do and very toxic.
