She really won't care what you get her. The boxes and wrapping paper will be what she really enjoys.

I like first birthdays for non-toys. Its going to be a long time before you get to buy something just for looking at or as a rememberance.

In our family every girl gets a choker necklace (well its a choker by the time they're adults) made of tiny pearls with an antique clasp.

boys & girls get engraved cup & spoons with case.

boys get the japanese traditional boys day celebration - girls get the same

I threw her a huge party she hated... she moped around most of it but when I let her go she ran around and tore up the place! It was hard to keep up with her and she had a blast. Honestly I don't recall what I got her specifically but I am a big fan of educational toys and let me tell you it has been awesome for her. She loves to learn and she is learning so much more in school now. She is 4 and goes to a Montessori school and she is growing by leaps and bounds!

With my two older boys I always bought gifts that were a little older than they were. at 1 year I bought 18+ toys - it challenges them. For little girls at one year I think what I bought my 18 month old would be great - It is a Fisher Price musical table - it was reasonably priced and he loved it - he still plays with it everyday.

On her 1st she received a swing for the back yard that we put in a tree, it is great it will hold up to 50 pounds. We got her a baby pool to play in, and a bathing suite. She got books and basic learning toys. A bucket with shapes inside that you fit through the top. I would not get her anything major like toys; focus more on learning tools they are like sponges right now.

Well, for my son's first Birthday I got him a chicken dance Elmo, and a pillow person. My mom got him a cloth book about Noah's Ark. We just had a few people over, and a small constuction site cake, it had little Tonka trucks on it. For my daughter's first birthday, I got her a barbie doll and a little truck with balls that spin around in the back and I got her a Elmo DVD.

How exciting!! I'm already thinking of my son's first birthday and it's six months away! ha! We're going to have a lovely celebration with family & friends - two cakes (of course). He's got to enjoy a little himself. We want to get him something that he can look back on and say - that was my first birthday....perhaps a cute willowtree figurine. We're also a fan of books...you can never go wrong with those :-) I hope you have a glorious and FuN day!
