I have an 8 month old who has been strictly breastfed. I'm 4 mths pregnant, and my milk is low. I'm trying to supplement my son with formula, but he REFUSES to drink from a bottle. I'm afraid he's not drinking enough, but I don't know what to do?

Can he drink regular cow's/goat's milk or soy milk at his age?

You need to check with your doctor when he/she would switch your baby to regular whole milk. They need whole milk for brain development.  My pediatrician began the switch at 8 months, some start at a year old.  I also breastfed all my kids and I know that my youngest son didn't like the bottle at all either.  Can you use a sippy cup instead of the bottle?  Get a beginner sippy cup which doesn't have a very big opening so it won't make a mess if he doesn't know how to use it.  Make it fun, get an interesting cup.  Look at different theme cups.  Good luck.

When I was weaning my daughter at 16 months I would nurse her till she was sleep then finish her off with cows milk her sippy while still bare breasted. She never refused either and it was a very comfortable process for both of us.

This is just a idea as i know this helped with my friend who had the same problem. Have you tried letting someone else feed him from a bottle...i know it sounds mad but apparently the baby can smell the breast milk on you so only wants it from you, once she got her husband feeding him after a while it worked then she fed him in his chair rather than her holding him and finally it worked and he drinks from the bottle as normal now, she also tried getting bottles that were for people that were breast feeding. I dont think babies can have cows milk as a drink till they are 12 months old but can have it in cereal from 6 months. Really hope this helps as i know how worried my friend was x.

When my son was 9 months he was the worst with his bottle, he didn't really like it at all but at 9 months he just won't take it. I took him to the doctor and the doctor took him off formula and put him on cows milk. He loved his bottle again and didn't give it up until he was 15 months. That was another problem in its self. Hope I help.

ask your dr about the cow's milk...my son was 10 months.  have someone else try to give your son the bottle...he doesn't want to take the generic when he knows you have the real thing!!  but he may take the bottle from someone else (and you should go to another room so he can't even see you).

You could try the Advent Sippee cup... those are easy to use and most babies like them.  Also if you havent tried their bottles they function like a breast.  I never had "nipple confusion" while using those bottles and all my babies liked them. And Yes they can have goats milk.  It is actually the closest thing to mother's milk if you break it down biologically.

what i told my friend to do was try giving him juice in a bottle that way he gets use to it.most of the time they get the hang of it or try different nipples.no milk at 8 months too soon wait till about 10 !/2 -11 months
