Greetings.

My baby used to sleep well at night. Since she turned 8 months on Monday, she now wakes up between 3am-5am, sometimes screaming at the top of her lungs. I nurse her, and she still does not seem content. We fall asleep and she seems fine.

Is she not getting enough food? Is there something I am overlooking?

She has problems with her bowel movements, so I juice her fruits and veggies (less commercial baby food to help her out). I add a bit of oatmeal and prunes to the juicing. Her meal is supplemented with avocado, squash, and sometimes prunes. She still nurses and she is eating more.

My daughter went thru separation anxiety at night right aound 8mo. Not recommending how to solve it cause after about a mo and being awake eventually up to two hours at a time more than once a night we ended up letting her cry. But just so you can look into it and develope your own ideas.

Is she teething? My DD started to wake up around this age because she got 3 new teeth and had a cold all at the same time. It was a crazy couple of months. Or, is she having nightmares? Obviously she can't tell you yet. Is she sick? Have you started new foods that maybe she is allergic to? My DD was waking up a lot before we discovered some of her allergies and STILL does if someone gives her something she is allergic to. Especially with your daughter's history of food issues I would say food sensitivities/allergies may be a problem. When my daughter woke up she would seem fine once someone was caring for her -- but she clearly wasn't. I would eliminate some of the newer foods and re-introduce slowly and see if that helps.

Well, according to babycenter.com updates that I get, it's common for babies that age to wake screaming because now that they are learning object permanance, they know that you are not there and they want you to be. Just an idea. I always feel that you should call your pediatrician if you are worried though. My 8 1/2 month old is just starting to sleep through the night but does wake up between 3 and 5 almost nightly still. I just feed her and she goes back to sleep til 8:30 although my pediatrician said that babies that age should be able to sleep through the night without an early morning feeding. Another thing, if she recently started new foods (stage 3), she may just be adjusting to digesting new things which can cause constipation. My little one gets constipated now that she's having finger foods. Look for baby foods high in fiber... that may help her digest. Regarding food allergies, it may be that she has tried something new that isn't working with her system. When you give her a new food, wait about 3 days before introducing anything else new to see how she reacts to it. It's common for babies to have allergies to foods sometimes.

If she's waking up screaming then it's obvious that SOMETHING is bothering her. Having bowel problems could be it. It could be gas. How is she falling asleep? On you? Because the heat of your body could be helping her bowel problems.

Also, take a good look at her diet. Bowel problems usually stem from an allergy to a certain food. Is there something you introduced to her at 8 months that she hadn't had before?
