At the moment we have the TV on Playhouse Disney most of the day. My boy loves the Imagination Movers. My daughter is out-growing the pre-schooler's shows, so I let her watch a bit of Boomerang depending on what shows are on at the time. I am not too strict on the amount of time the TV is on but I am fussy about what they are actually watching.

Depends on the age of the kids, when mine were very young they only watched a couple of shows a day like Barney or Sesame Street, now they are older we record all the mythbusters / how its made type programmes.
I don't keep it on all day as my electricity bill would be sky high and its better for kids to entertain themselves. If they are ill they cant sit in front of the tv all day but thats about the only time.

My telly is always on. Its usually the music channels tho as we all love music, the kids enjoy copying the dances too (they are 5 and 3 yrs old). they watch some cartoons on the weekend but as I like to take them on walks and visiting they hadly get chance to really veg out. I like the t.v. as background noise. mind you finding the remote to watcheastenders once the little ones are in bed is never much fun lol!!

the shows he likes are comfy couch, doodlebops all though not the new cartoon one, super why & frankin or little bear & soccer & hockey. Does he watch these daily no I usually just have them recorded & play one here or there for him. He is 3 & loves tv way to much that if I let him I am sure he would just sit & watch for hours.

In the mornings we watch Curious George, Sid the Science Kid, Super Why, Dinosaur Train, and Mickey Mouse. After my husband gets home we vary it between different kid-friendly movies until Jeopardy comes on... I have to watch my Jeopardy!

My friend doesn't allow her five children to watch cartoons because she thinks they're stupid and while some are, I think some can be educational. When I babysit her kids, I have to respect the fact that they can't watch certain shows so I usually put on what they can watch because I only have one tv. I don't really mind but I think it's odd that she feels like that about cartoons. They're children and should be able to watch cartoons once in a while but not never. I guess our views are different and I respect her decision, I just don't agree with it completely.

Most of the time the tv is just on. Although, when we're cooking we have music on. Kid appropriate (no Hank III) and usually classic country or motown

Our tv is on all day either the Treehouse or disney channels. We don't watch it all day- its mainly background noise. My daughter is 3 and those are about the only 2 channels she is allowed to watch other than American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. She loves music. We mainly colour, go to the park, play in the backyard, read books or I get stuck playing barbies with her lol!! She also goes on the computer daily approx 1 hr.

OMG Tracy, me too! I love food network :) I don't have to tv on much when I am home with baby but when Daddy comes home the tv goes on. I figure he gets enough exposure then without me adding to it. Sometimes I turn it on for background noise or the radio. but I dont plop him down in front of the tv to keep him busy. (at least not yet, lol)

As little as possible! I'm all for a disney movie and the old cartoons (tom and jerry, bugs bunny, etc) but I think most of the new childrens shows are crap. Over the years, I have been collecting the old family shows on dvd(cosby, dr quinn, little house on the praire, etc) and that is what they are allowed to watch when I feel they are at an appropriate age. I am okay with sesame street but I wish it was more like when I was young. I am not opposed to discovery most of the time but alot of what they teach is Evolution so I make sure I can correct that if needed.



Kids don't need dora, max and ruby or cailou(who is a whiny brat I might add) to learn. There are toys, books and puzzles for that stuff. Better yet, go outside and count the flowers on a plant or find as many things you can that start with different letters, or are different colors.

In the evenings when I get home from work, my daughter watch t.v. together. We watch Dora (her favorite), Micky Mouse, Olivia, Max and Ruby, and a few other shows on Nick Jr. She loves it and it's very educational. It gives us things to work together on, such as colors, ABC's, rhyming, etc...

I'm with Amy - the TV is always on. Animal planet, discovery, history, and I'm addicted to medical and mystery/crime shows.

All my kids can say "sarcoidosis" and two of them can spell it, lol.

We have the tv on often, as we're a loud family and just like noise. It's on Discovery, Food Channel, Weather Channel, and History. Monday evenings from 7-9 is when myself and my husband like sitcoms. We watch a movie together once every couple months.

On weekends I might let my kids watch a little TV, Disney cartoons mainly. But mostly we keep it off. Although, if it's a crummy day out and there's a Mythbuster's or Dirty Jobs marathon, we're curled up on the couch together!
