Are you breastfeeding? If so, it could be a sensitivity to dairy protein in your diet.

i am so sorry for you!! my son is 6 months old...he was diagnosed with acid reflux a few months ago. he was born 10 weeks early and i her it is normal in preemies. he goes to a gastroenterologist, is on zantac twice a day and has cereal in his formula. he sleeps on an incline,we hold him upright for 20 minutes at last after he eats and he goes through TONS of bibs. some people change the formula, but that dd nothing for us...good news is the dr. says it is something they grow out of, it gets better and better when they sit up better and should be gone by 1 year old. good luck...sorry for the laundry!!

My son was 5 weeks early and had acid reflux. He needed to be on Zantac until he was about 13 months old, then it cleared up. He slept upright in his carseat at night for the first 3-4 months of life. We tried different bottles and adding cereal but the medicine is really what did the trick. I hope your daughter feels better soon! My son would scream in pain without the meds but they sure helped!

it could be anything. for nine months i did everything for my daughter, we thought acid reflux and stomach issues. she was tested for everything UPPER GI and finally at nine months my doctor checked milk allergy...turns out thats what it was...just another idea...so you know it could be anything...keep close tabs with your doctor and you will figure it out...my daughter hasn't spit up once since i changed her to SOY based formula...all the best to you...hopefully you figure it out sooner than us and save your baby more pain.

I have a post almost about this exact thing. I have started using the Dr Browns bottles and add a little cereal to each one to make them a little thicker. we are also using Enfamil gentlease as it is partially digested for her and helps with gas. The bottles helped a lot though I saw a difference almost immediately, my husband gave her a regular bottle yesterday and she started the throwing up again so I am pretty sure they help!

I did speak with Dr. and he has prescribed liquid Zantac to see if that relieves her pain. Hopefully this will help and thanks for replies.

Reflux is certainly possible. Speak with the pediatrician about having her seen by a gastroenterologist or ENT (ear/nose/throat) doc. Reflux is not uncommon in infants and it's sometimes caused by a temporary weakness in the muscle that holds the little flap covering the esophagus. Some babies have other symptoms like frequent hiccups, choking while feeding, bubbling milk back much worse if you lie them flat after feeding or reduced crying if they're kept upright for about an hour after feeding.

Unless there is a structural issue (that can be repaired) it's typical for a baby with reflux to be treated with some changes in feeding habits (like positioning after feeding) and sometimes a trial of liquid medication like ranitidine (Zantac)

It IS important to have her seen within a reasonable time because if she's bubbling acid back up, it's possible (just as in adults with GERD) for damage to occur to her esophagus - erosion because of constant/repeated contact with stomach acid.

Unfortunately, reflux is often due in part to an immature stomach, the "trapdoor" at the top of the stomach doesn't stay tightly closed. My daughter was probably around 6 or 7 weeks old when it started (she was 5 weeks premmie though), and she was breastfed. Our doctor suggested infant Gaviscon, we tried it but didn't like it. The main things that helped Brianna were burping her heaps (the wind trying to come up seems to push up stomach contents) , infacol drops before a feed, keeping her head elevated, particuarly after a feed (propping up head end of cot or mattress for sleeping) as they get older they will slowly improve. Hope these tips help you.

Maybe the formula isn't agreeing with her. None of mine could hand the stuff with iron, so they had to be on soy milk. It could also be something more serious and you should probably have her looked at by the doctor.
