My daughter has a really difficult time sleeping. We've gone through all sorts of trials with her, and it is thought as of now, that she has an acid reflux problem that is intensified when she lays down. She sleeps anywhere from 4-8 hours a night, but often falls asleep at 8:30 and wakes at 1:15 am. She is insistant on my waking with her, and needs lots of reassuring. I am on my own with this, and have been so sleep deprived that I'm zombified most of the time... any advice??

One thing to remember is you have to care for yourself so that you can care for her better. Sleep when she sleeps. If possible, nap everyday as well. I had a child with reflux and we had to elevate his bed. Put some books under the head of the mattress. Not too high though, you don't want her to fall off or slide down. Two to three inches should help. Also, don't feed her at bedtime. Feed her at least one-two hours before bed. Most of all, pray. Pray over her and pray for strength for yourself. I am going to pray for you too.
"God, please keep your hand over Amber and her family. Be with her sweet baby girl. Heal her from this illness Lord. Give Amber the strength and wisdom to care for her daughter. Thank you for hearing our prayers. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen"
Hang in there. It will get better. God Bless :)

My son had reflux really bad as a baby and our pediatrician told me to elevate his head. He suggested I strap him (comfortably) in his car seat (it was elevated) and would you believe it worked. Try it - you might be surprised. I just put him beside my bed and we both finally started sleeping through the night. Also, I would water down anything he I could- the more water and less sugar the better for reflux! Good luck - it will get better!

On your day off, ask friends or family to take her for a few hours...maybe a trip to the mall to see Santa, anything really, then get a nap in. I have three girls under 4 years, and I'm up about every 2 hours with one or the other, My husband and I take turns napping when we're both home.

Have you tried using a mattress with an incline? If she was younger I'd say have her sleep in a bouncy to keep her more upright, but an inclinded mattress would do the same thing. I don't know where to get one but I knew a mom who used one for her baby so I know they're out there.

I would try elevating her head more. Does she sleep with a pillow? In a bed or crib? You can buy a crib wedge that goes under the mattress....

Have you tried to prop up her bed a bit with some books like the phone book or two. That might help with the reflux. I'm not a doctor or nurse but I'm a mom of two (8 and 6) and have been babysitting for 26 years. It's just a guess but it might help. Try to not have her eat or drink anything but water before bed ( like that's going to happen if she anything like my kids) As for the sleep, it's hard if you haven't any help. If you're still lucky enough for her to nap take one at the same time.
As for drinks apple juice and orange juice are bad for acid reflux, water them down if you can with out her noticing. Let me know how things work out!
