Hi, i was hoping someone could help me. I have heard that epidurals can cause severe back pain in the minority of women and although its not for me personally as I have had my children I need help for my mum.

She has cancer of the colon and liver at 52 and has just had a liver surgery which means she had an epidural which was put in twice. Since her surgery 2 weeks ago she is in agony with back pain and the nurses can't isolate the problem. I am convinced its the epirudal.

Does anyone think this could be a possibility, and if so any experience of it themselves. I am hoping to solve the issue then she can gewt some relief. She is in a lot of distress with the pain. Any info would be welcomed.

Thanks Jessica

I had minor back pain before having my son but nothing too bad. I had an epidural and now anything I do but sitting or laying hurts. ESPECIALLY bending over and picking my son up. I usually take a warm bath or use a heat pack. It doesn't cure the pain forever but it does make you feel better.

I had an epidural with my son, I didn't get any bruising. It's a little hard to tell about the back pain, I've always had back pain because I have large boobs it did get a little worse after having my son but I'm doubting it's because of the epidural as my boobs went up 3 cup sizes (10 DD to 12 G). Mind you I'm so used to back pain now that it's more or less a niggling thing. I don't take medication for it, i use heat packs :D

i had really bad back pain after my epidural , however, unlike what tiffany said, mine did go away...completely! i had pain severely for about a month, then within 7 weeks all the bruising from it, etc went away and the pain went right along with it. i hope she finds some relief and if it is from that, i hope it goes away soon for her. good luck and thoughts are with you all on the quick recovery of your mother!

it can take months to get used to but after a while it will get better sometimes your doctor can give pain meds for it
