I have a 9 and 7 year old boys, both with adhd and mood disorders. Some days are better than others, I need some advice on how to help them. I am starting cllege this week, and my 7 yr old is out of control, and the 9 yr old cant keep his hands to himself. Any advice on how to deal with them/

Another good book is "Raising your spirited child" It gives very good advice that you can pick from as well. With any book however, read through it and choose what you like and what you don't from it and pick what works best for you.

I agree with Jeanie's advice on the behavior chard. My children do not have ADHD but I find that things go much more smoothly when we adhere to a strict system such as that.

Consistency is also very important as well as getting them out of the house and running their little tails off. Engage them in activities that promote loud noises and lots of movements. Kids need this sort of thing, and if you can give it to them in a structured setting as well, it might help ease their behaviour when you want them to behave.

As a follow-up on Jeanie's advice, I have posted a link to a book that I have found invaluable (I have an aggressive 6yr old with ADHD). The link shows a sample page of the book 'The Chemical Maze'. Bread is probably the most consumed product containing preservatives.

Chore / Behavior charts....sounds simple but can be a little time consuming at first....make up a chart with chores, or even your expectations....dry erase boards work well but paper and markers are okay too...WITH your boys create the chart of things they need to do...clean their space, keep hands to self , brush teeth, comb hair, whatever YOU need THEM to do, you need to be consistent with rewards and consequences....IT'S A GOOD IDEA FOR THEM TO HAVE A HAND IN THE POSSIBLE REWARD/CONSEQUNCE CHOICES!!! I suggest using a certain color (perhaps their favorite) or sticker for YES and a black marker or sad face for a NO. I also suggest you have a good guy area on your chart, it will help to reinforce positive responses from your child and in addition allows you to reinforce the nice guy tendencies....With ADD or ADHD you have to make sure you have their attention before you give a directive...I usually touch a child on the hand or cheek to get their eyes on me....Eye contact is really important and I never give a directive w/out it!!! I have been a teacher of special needs children for 19 years as well as having a 28 yo with ADD....Sorry this was so wordy but I feel this is a positive way to modify behaviors....Good Luck and don't give up, it's worth the results!!!!!

try getting them off procvessed foods and back to the basics, this would include removing them from any morning processed cereals, (lke puffed cereals and sugars) It may help.
